My husband does not have direct deposit and his local bank account just got closed. He is in chexsystems and telecheck. We have to transfer his paycheck to my USAA account. We use to do this via a cash advance using the visa logo with his SunTrust account. If he cashes his paycheck at Walmart and puts funds on the card, can we do a cash advance, using the visa logo?

Regarding your old routine ... If your name was not on his (now closed) SunTrust checking account, you may be very lucky that USAA hasn't closed your checking account:

... I get a call today around 6pm from a woman who is a fraud and anti money laundering investigator. I guess this is VERY serious now. Anywho, she finally tells me what is going on. Basically the problem stems from Wachovia, DH's bank. I'm not sure who initiated contact between the two banks but apparently someone got suspicious of all the cash advances. I'm not on DH's accounts at Wachovia and he is not on my accounts at USAA. So it looks like the transactions might be "unauthorized." Anywho, she says that if DH contacts her directly, even though she can't talk to him about my account, and tells her that the transactions are authorized by him then she will unfreeze my accounts.

Yes you can get cash advances with the Walmart Money Card. Also cash advances with the Green Dot Card and the Western Union Debit Card.

When you say that you can get a cash advance, are you referring to the method that I think jelly450 is referring to ? USAA lets you do not just a credit card cash advance into your USAA checking account but also a "debit card cash advance" where, either online or by phone, you can have money instantly transferred (and instantly available) from another checking account into your USAA checking account.

Well, I guess so, because I did this every since they stopped doing the instant checking account advances. For the past few weeks we have used quick collect from western union but that is getting expensive.

That is exactly the type of transaction I want to do. I use to do them online and if the walmart card would work that would be great.

NEcrothread revival-I hit this thread searching for this same question, and thought I was in good shape, but per USAA disclosure as of 1/31/09 they no longer accept non-usaa visa cards for cash advances and od protection. I had an old account that I closed, then reopened again this year, and this was in one of the disclosure forms.

AS OF 1/31/09, NON-USAA VISA CARDS MAY NO LONGER BE USED

FOR OVERDRAFT PROTECTION OR TO MAKE CASH ADVANCES TO YOUR

ACCOUNT. MAKE CHANGES ON USAA.COM (KEYWORD: OVERDRAFT)
