Hi. Newbie here. Just had a question. I had a wells fargo acct last year, had a financial problem and wells closed it. It's in the red for 300.00. I'd like to pay it off and re-open a checking acct. Would they do this? I'd hate to have to find another bank as I am on chex for U.S.bank from a few years ago... I'm really trying to get things back on track. I'm also looking to open a business acct. BOA?

Thanks in advance!! ;)

You could try asking them but I don't believe that they would. Wells Fargo, WAMU and Wachovia are well known for opening accounts and later closing them due to chexsystems issues.

As far as BOA, you should be able to apply online and be approved. Right now if you APPLY ONLINE ONLY, most people are being approved for both personal and business accounts with them

Thanks. Not sure if we have any BOA here in Wisconsin. What about TCF? Hubby has never had an acct with US bank? Hubby might be on check systems from tri-city back in 2001. Wells fargo was a joint acct. your advise here is much appreciated.

thanks!

Anything reported from 2001 should have fallen off back in 2006. Chexsystems removes after 5 years. It would be best to get a free copy of your chexsystems report before trying to open a new account, so you know exactly what is reported.

Transportation Alliance Bank will open a business account for anyone regardless of where you may live. They do not use chexsystems at this time and will not pull a credit report either.

TCF might help you depending on if you have been reported to EWS or not. I would check that report as well.

Wells Fargo probably won't allow you to open up another checking account after paying off a charge off. It might be worth paying a recent charge off as you can try disputing the Chexsystems entry at a later date or it might be easier to get an account with a paid versus unpaid chargeoff.
