After reading through the board, I decided to fax in my bankruptcy papers and give it a shot. Got a notice in the mail a few weeks later informing me I was removed. I know it doesn't work in every circumstance, but it is definitely worth a shot. Thanks mca and CB. :(

Some are just maling / faxing in the papers with a simple dispute letter

RE: Consumer ID # (your consumer ID # here)

To Whom It May Concern:

I filed a bankruptcy on (date) which included the debt that you show on your records. I was advised that sending in proper documentation showing that the debt was included in my bankruptcy and was discharged on (date) would allow this record to be removed. This report is SEVERELY (if not completely) restricting my banking abilities.

If the debt described above has been resolved, I ask that you remove, or have removed, any derogatory marks from my Chexsystems, and Credit reports per the FCRA and send me confirmation that you have done so within 30 days of this letter. Thank you for your time and assistance with this important matter.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but it's relevant and it's one I've replied to here before.

I got another copy of my Chex report today (in the mail - requested it a few days ago). An old NSF entry from a bank is still on there, and it's nearly 4 years old now, and was included in my BK in 2008.

Rather than send them my BK papers (that idea skeeves me out for some reason) I'm going to just start with a simple dispute, play dumb, and see if the bank won't bother verifying it (considering it's 4 years old and was IIB I doubt they will). I'll update here when I get a response from Chex. Here's the "playing dumb" letter I'm sending them. (Normally I'm so well-written that I actually got accused of using a credit repair service by the CRAs when I was 20 and had no clue what credit repair was. LOL. So now I play dumb!)

To Whom It May Concern:

I received my report on [date]. However, there is inaccurate information on it. The report says to dispute something I should write to this address. I hope that I'm doing it correctly.

First of all, so you can identify me:

My Consumer ID # is [redacted].

My SSN is [redacted].

Now, the information that is incorrect comes from [bank]. My report says I owe them $XXX.XX. This is not true. I do not owe [bank] any money at all. Please remove this from my reports as it is keeping me from opening an account with the credit union I want. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Short, "dumb, and to the point. We'll see what happens. ;)

Wow, the result is awesome. What institution reported you?

I have been repairing my credit with good success for approx 18 months now. I dod have a Chex systems report (1) from an overdraft in 2008, approx 2.5 years ago (US Bank). After much wrestling in my mind (I have bank accts but do not want to have myself restricted should I elect to open an additional savings or checking to stash money, etc wherever I decide) I decided to start the dispute process yesterday.

Your post is very encouraging.
