Here's another boo boo the IRS admitted to today. This article was on MSNBC. QUOTE updated 5:43 p.m. ET, Thurs., May. 15, 2008 WASHINGTON - Up to 350,000 households aren't getting the $300 per child owed them as part of their economic stimulus rebate payments, the Internal Revenue Service said Thursday.
The tax agency says taxpayer human error and computer glitches were responsible for the problem affecting a tiny percentage of the 130 million taxpayers expected to benefit from the refunds the government began sending out last month.
IRS spokesman Terry Lemons said the agency was confident it had identified all the people affected by the mistake. He said the IRS will send letters to those who missed out on the refund and that checks for the child credit will be mailed out in July. People need not contact the IRS or file additional paperwork, he said.
The rebates, the centerpiece of the government's $168 billion plan to revive the faltering economy, provide up to $600 for an individual and $1,200 for married couples, based on income levels. In addition, people are entitled to $300 for eligible children younger than 17.
He said the problem on the child payments was traced to taxpayers failing to check a box on their paper tax returns and to two computer software systems, less than 1 percent of those in use, that weren't capturing the information needed to trigger the payment.
The IRS has already refunded some $27 billion to about 30 million taxpayers. It expects to hit 130 million refunds by the end of June, with the last checks — except for those who requested extensions in filing their returns and a few other exceptions — going out in July.

I'm 87 and got my DD last night, $900, Married with 1 child.
General reason for only getting the minimum is that my tax liability is $0 generally each year since my wife stopped working to be a stay at home mom. At my income level, I am able to not only get the Child tax credit, but also qualify for the EIC. I claim exempt from Fed taxes on my payroll checks so the only payroll tax they take from me to the IRS is twice a year bonus checks. I paid roughly $500 in fed taxes in 2007 and ended up with a refund of almost $3500. How can one survive on this income - No mortgage! our house is 100% paid for.
I believe I got this figured out to a degree though - You can still qualify for the full amount if you get a refund, it all matters if you have an ending tax liability total. For people using Form 1040, I believe that Line 63 is the key line, if that number is 0 (as it is on mine), then you get $300 (or $600 Married filing jointly). If that number is up to $600, then you get $600 for single, dunno if that would get $1200 or $900 for the joint filers). $300 for each child added to the end.

[font="Franklin Gothic Medium"]Thanks to CreditBoards, my credit is almost CLEAN. I no longer live in fear of my credit. I am in Control. I am a Credit Boards Success. YOU can be TOO! Travelling on the Road to Credit Worthiness... I have arrived!

It's just frustrating to no end. Obviously we're getting a check since no DD today. IMO, I don't think the IRS is going by any kind of schedule, and is just randomly getting these rebates out. SIL got hers today, and she got a RAL through Block, her number was in the last group of DD's.
I've most definately learned not to count my chickens before they hatch. DH thought we were getting the money this week, even though I told him I didn't think we would, and he bought a ton of crap he needed for work. Now we gotta pay for that out of this weeks pay, and still be behind on everything else. I told him to take the stuff back, but they already used it.
Enough whining from me....

I don't want to be negative, I really don't....however, I don't understand the frustration some are showing with this rebate. This is a bonus check that no one should have counted on anyway. No one's life should be hanging on this check, but there is a lot of anger and frustration not only on this thread, but all over the internet. Can someone explain this to me? Not trolling, not looking for an argument...just trying to understand.

Here's an email received from Turbo Tax... Hopes this helps with the inquiries...
Dear Valued Customer, We want to provide you with the most up-to-date information about the tax rebate to which you may be entitled. Recently, you may have received a letter from the IRS advising you when to expect your Economic Stimulus Payment (rebate). That IRS letter may have inadvertently left off some important information. Taxpayers who chose to have their tax preparation fees deducted from their federal tax refund will receive their tax rebate in the mail, not via direct deposit. Our records show that you chose this payment option in TurboTax. As a result, the IRS has determined that you will receive your tax rebate in the mail. This may result in you receiving your rebate on a date later than expected. This situation, while not unique to TurboTax, is understandably causing some concern and confusion. To help further clarify the situation, below is the most current IRS rebate payment processing schedule, as well as additional resources about the tax rebates. I hope you find this information helpful. If you still have questions, the best source for the most up-to-date information is www.irs.gov (see the "Rebate Payment Questions" link). Sincerely,
Bob Meighan

The IRS says we have to wait til June or July; however, according to some on here, people whose numbers are in the 80's & 90's have already gotten paper checks I am totally regretting having the fee taken from our refund instead of just paying the stupid $30 by debit card. It's been a big hassle!

I received a letter stating that I should get mine after May 16. The thing I don't understand is that I owe back taxes. I was under the impression that I would not be receiving my $600, but the letter makes me think otherwise. The $600 has not been credited towards my account with the IRS. Guess I will wait and see.

17 and no direct deposit for me. I also owed IRS a little bit of money. QUOTE Your total Stimulus payment was calculated as $600.00 and consists of the following:
* Basic Amount: $600.00. * Qualifying Child Amount: $0.00 (Based on 0 qualifying children).
Your payment of $471.74 is scheduled to be issued on May 30, 2008. If you do not receive your check by June 27, 2008, please contact us again. We are unable to take any action until then.
