QUOTE(melikey @ Apr 30 2008, 06:53 PM) I don't know how it works in this instance: I put bank info on return for direct deposit even though I knew refund would be intercepted because I owed back taxes. Back taxes are now paid, wonder if stimulus will be direct deposit? I paid for TurboTax with credit card. If your return shows your bank info you should get direct deposit, if Turbotax changed it to their standard # you'll be receiving a check.

QUOTE(nyrfann @ Apr 30 2008, 06:17 PM) QUOTE(melikey @ Apr 30 2008, 06:13 PM) QUOTE(nyrfann @ Apr 30 2008, 06:12 PM) QUOTE(Durnit @ Apr 30 2008, 06:07 PM) I'm not in any ruch to get mine, although it should be Friday. However there are some here that 300-1800 WOULD change their lives. Yes maybe they will have the same problems later on but why can't they express their hurry to get it? Everyone here doesn't make a lot, or have a spouse that can cover them when they're down and out, some of us here are at or below poverty level. There are also some here that make 148K that are strapped for cash. No one here knows the others situation so if someone needs their cash they need it. For those that will get it when you get it fine, I know there are some here that would buy a pair of shoes for $1800 but there are others that will take that same $1800 and buy groceries, pay tuition, or send their kid to that summer camp that they've promised but really wasn't sure how they were going to do it. Sorry if it's long winded it just irritates me that because something isn't important to some they feel it shouldn't be important to others either. If it changed your life on lets say Friday(not referring to you, just using an example) it's will change you life 4 Friday from now. And sorry no way up to $1800 is changing anybodies life! ??? What??? And just how do you discern that? Discern what, that $1800 is going to change someones life? Cause it's just not going to! Have you noticed today's gas prices, grocery prices etc. $1800 is a band aid for a short period of time, it''s FAR from a life changer. I agree, it probably is not going to be a life changer. I do, however, know several young couples where it would definately provide a little breathing room. Things are good for me now. I have an emergency fund, 401K, bank accounts are good, and there are groceries in the kitchen. But I remember where I came from and I can remember a time when the $1200.00 I'm getting back would have been a real godsend. A time when the wolves were at the door and I wondered how I would take care of my family. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not calling you out, but I understand those in this thread who are excited about a windfall hitting their account.

I have a coworker that makes as much as I do, in the same "circumstances" I am (single mother, etc) -- and lives right up to her paycheck, pays her bills late and is already plotting a disneyland vacation with her money......... instead of doing something like getting her bills caught up. But that would make too much sense. PS-before anyone pounds me over the head and tells me everyone deserves a vacation, they just WENT to Disneyland last Fall ............. and they are going again this summer. Ridiculous.

Wrong.... I want it right NOW cause I want to pay off my Amex CC. The payment is due early next week. If I don't get it now, then I'll have to send in a small payment now and another later when I get the refund. And the balance on my CR will show higher.

My friend on the other hand, lol, let's see, she's behind on her mtg, her Blazer, her truck, oh and she just spent $500 on 2 pairs of glasses (has insurance that would have covered a cheaper pair, mind you) and just got her hair, feet, and teeth done. But, she's wanting to buy her husband an $800 dog and put flowers in her yard. Oh and she's only going to put $1000 of her tax returns towards the back pay that she owes on the house. Oh and talking about paying $500 to get her teeth whitened. Do I sound bitter? Yep. Would love to have gone and gotten new glasses (haven't had a new pair in 5 years) Would love a pedicure. Haven't had one in 2 years. BUT at least I have the peace of mind that my car is not going to be repoed. I have the peace of mind that once this judgement is gone, I won't have to worry about that, etc etc. Would love to buy some new clothes since all I have worn is maternity stuff for the last 5 years, but that stuff will come. Am I waiting impatiently? YES. One less week or month that I have of this on my credit report===will thrill me!!!!

Problem is a lot people have their priorities wrong, you on the other hand have your priorities correct.I have a 20 month emergency fund, guess where my refund is going, to my emergency fund, I want to be 24 month liquid by years end. When my wife became unemployed towards the end of 2007 I really realized the importance of an emergency fund. In this very bad economy you cannot have too much emergency money.

We plan on paying down our debt and getting the bills caught up. Then putting what's leftover into savings. I wish I'd never heard they were sending out payments early, then when/if we got ours early I'd be surprised. Now I'm checking my acct. every few hours.

QUOTE(hurricanesfans27 @ Apr 30 2008, 08:11 PM) i have been informed not to expect any premature stimulation. lol I was checking our account quite frequently as well as the irs website. Well, talked to someone today and they said I will be stimulated BY CHECK next Friday (may 9th). I would like some premature stimulation but I think I am developing a disorder from the anticipation. The IRS also stated that since I filed the injured spouse form separately and not efile, that that is why we are getting a check mailed. I hope that by some piece of luck it is actually DD instead. lol. They said the same for the rebate as well. Oh and we get half of that since I am still in rehab for my student loans. They are putting half towards that (even though I didn't work last year) and sending us the other half. But as much as I would have liked another grand, to be able to put to savings or whatnot, at least it's going towards my SL.

Does 3% ring a bell? No. And I would be embarrassed to pull the "dollar" out in Europe, it's worth CRAP. Try pulling that dollar out in the UK. $1000 gets you just over 500 pounds. And in London, that doesnt go far at all! So will credit cards give me a better exchange rate? NO NO NO NO! Dont even THINK about it. The rate would be worse, much worse. You will get the exchang rate, plus additional fees. Use cash in Europe. Im European, trust me. The USD against the Euro is horrible right now. Thanks, I thought so.

While this tax stimulus is NOT going to change anyone's life in the long-term, others who have emergency funds and are sitting pretty should not be disparaging those who are impatiently waiting. (Now if the gov. had just never said anything about sending the rebates out early, people wouldn't be partly panicking - the way they originally set it up with the numbers and the dates that the checks/dd's would be sent "by" worked just fine.)
I keep checking my bank account and my daughter's bank account - because I have this addiction to making sure everything single thing is logged in. In the past I have had a breach because my ATM card # was stolen and used - and if I didn't check regularly (I used to check in every few days or so), I would have had a MAJOR problem on my hands. I caught the problem early enough and the right steps were taken with the bank.
The $600 my daughter is waiting for will help her purchase some supplies she needs for her job. The sooner, the better for her.
I would never question anyone's impatience or irritation at waiting for this money. There was a time when I first got divorced that I literally had to roll pennies from a big coin jar I had to put gas in my tank to get to work to provide for my 3 kids (since my ex refused to pay a dime yet wanted to go live the high life). I did whatever I could (well, not "whatever", but you get my drift) to make sure my kids had food, shelter and clothing. Back then, if I knew I was getting some extra money - i.e., tax stimulus rebate - I would be on pins and needles just waiting, knowing it would take a little stress off me, if only temporary.
Please don't make nasty or condescending comments to those who are waiting for this check. No, it will not change their life, but it may cause one less gray hair on some...
Plus, I was reading and partaking in this thread as some sort of game - "Who got their check?" "Not today." Etc., etc.
LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE!!!!!

Just to note...I called the IRS yesterday my husbands last 2 is 20 she figured what we would get and said it would be Friday May 2 we filed married filing joint 2 kids 1 -19 1 -11 could only use the 11 year old for the stimulus we both work full time as of now but last year my husband was unemployed most of the year but we still finished the year with 39,000 mostly my income I was allowed $831 for the child tax credit on our regular return with all of this she figured we are getting 1,131 in our stimulus check direct deposited on Firday.
Not sure if this information will help anyone but thought I would post it anyway....
