So I have myself, my wife, and my son on my 2007 tax return. We filed "Married filing jointly" and claimed our son as a dependent. So we should be getting $1500, right? According to the IRS calculator it says $900. What gives with that!?

I wish I could get $600, I only qualify for $300. Seems like a person who makes less should get more than a person who makes more per year, but I guess the poor will stay poor lol. I'm a student so i will take whatever I can get

BTW, how do you determine how much you are getting? Everything I have seen says up to $600, but nothing I have read says what determines how much one gets back.

well at the IRS site is says that if you paid taxes this year and you are single then you get 600, but if you got a refund, then you will get 300. Well I got a refund this year, so I was only expecting 300.

not exactly .. you can get a refund and still get 600 but you must have PAID a net tax after your withholding.

Exactly. If you got a refund of all the taxes you paid in then you will get a rebate of $300, otherwise $600.

Where do you see this?

From what I understand, it's based on tax liability, not withholding.

We had our stimulus amount calculated by my mom's office (she works for a CPA). They did a worksheet for it, which works like the calculator. We are getting $1800.
$1200 for married filing jointly
$300 for each child

We received a refund this year for $757 and we are still getting the full amount.

Net tax liability has nothing to do with withholding. From what I understand, it's your tax liability less nonrefundable credits (except the child credit).

Whether or not you had overpaid during the year and are now receiving a refund because of it is irrelevant.
