AmEx was showing me Zync, Green, and Gold but I didn't want a card with an AF. I applied for the Blue Sky and got approved. Originally got the "We'll mail you in 14 days with our decision" message but then checked my application status 5 minutes later and it showed approved. Their pre-selector seems to be one of the better built of the group.

should have chosen the delta gold instead of their option,

why?

i can hold a balance and earn flying points!

Also wanted to add to my above post. If I so choose, I can still carry a balance on the Blue Sky. All of the Blue series are credit cards and not charge cards. I don't plan on it considering AmEx gave me their worst interest rate on it, but the option is still there nonetheless.

Also, I don't plan on using the card for flying much anyway. I moreso plan on using the travel credits for hotel rooms, mostly. Though if I feel like using them for flights, that's an option too.

got accepted off one of the pre selectors for amex yay! :yahoo:

When you accepted the AMEX offer, I assume they did a hard pull? Did you upgrade or apply for a new card?

Just wanted to send an FYI that Buckle also had the pre-approval pop-up when you check out. They also seem to have some pretty good clothes there as well.

For the online stores that do pre-approvals: do these offers literally pop up in a new Window or are they on the same Page? For example I'm on walmart now and it has a small ad/link that says "use your walmart card now and receive $20 off $100"

WFNNB shopping-cart method is the way to go IMO. No hard pulls, and you get credit.

I got it to work by clicking guest checkout. I fill out the first page with shipping and billing name and address and hit the button for the next page. If it's gonna pop up that's when it will do it. It will happen before you put in your CC info. If it doesn't pop up just keeping trying. It took me about 3 days to get J. Crew. I litterally tried every site everyday and on day 3 J. crew worked. On about day 10 Express worked. I am shooting for VS but can't get a pre approval from them so far.

Make sure your info is EXACTLY like it is reported to the Credit Bureaus. Name, Address, Phone Number, etc. must match, even though they don't do a hard pull, they do some sort of looksie at your info. Also make sure your pop-up blocker is off!

Try with the WFNNB Redcats merchants first! Generally, if you get a pre-approval pop up from one of them, you end up getting one from all of them! These are One Stop Plus, Roaman's, Woman Within, Jessica London, King Size, Brylane Home, and Avenue! There is also The Sportman's Guide Visa which is much harder to get!

I've been trying to get The Buckle card for awhile with the shopping cart method. Probably about a year. No luck. DW has Victoria's Secret and Maurice's and I have Express. Tried Brylane Home and got the pop-up. Declined and tried The Buckle. It worked!

So after a extensive search on CB & Google, the below credit card sites are the only ones I could find that pull 'soft' inquiries to see if you qualify for their cards.

note: deleted original links - they're dead. please use the links below.

Courtesy of foeplay - update as of Sept 7 2010:

Pre-approval links
HSBC pre-qualifier (must bank with HSBC): https://www.hsbcappl...hsbccreditcard/
HSBC/Household pre-qualifier: https://www.hsbcappl...t/householdbank
HSBC/Orchard's pre-qualifier: https://www.hsbcappl...art/orchardbank
HSBC/BestBuy's pre-qualifier: https://www.hsbcappl...dzonemastercard
Capital One's pre-qualifier: https://cardfinder.c...3ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Discover's pre-qualifier: https://www.discover...ORE_pre_chk_btn

Database checkers (not a pre-qualifier; checks to see if they have any currently standing offers for you in their database)
Bank of America: https://preselected....elfInquiry.aspx
Citibank: https://www.citicard...o?screenID=4010
American Express (Click on "NOT A CARDMEMBER YET"): https://www201.ameri...atePerfectCards

Sites that have been known to give pre-approvals when you shop there/go to check out there:
Victoria's Secret http://www.victoriassecret.com
Newport News http://www.newportnews.com (you can check to see if you're pre-approved here: https://www.newport-...preapprove.aspx )
Spiegel http://www.spiegel.com (you can check to see if you're pre-approved here: https://www.spiegel..../eligcheck.aspx )
Metrostyle http://www.metrostyle.com
Chadwick's http://www.chadwicks.com
Roamans http://www.roamans.com

These are a bit outdated now :dntknw:

Just tried the Orchard bank link today, and it says this card/site is no longer available due to the recent acquisition of Orchard Bank by Capital One.

So. As i've been building my credit.. I tried the sportsmans guide.

Picked a few ammunition I could use and followed the normal steps to get pre-approval like I did with a VS card.

I got the pre-approval for the VISA, but does that still do a soft pull If I accept it?

Thanks!

I tried the discover link and it should the Discover recommended more card. I didn't apply I didn't want a hard pull and not get approved, do you know if it will do a hard pull? Just because it says recommended that doesn't mean you will get it.

FWIW I have no soft pulls from chase when I checked today but I do have a 5 month old hard pull from a mortgage pull. I don't think that pull would have generated the mail offer but I don't know any other way they would have pre approved it. The pre approval is for CSP with opt out notice and the score from the mortgage pull had a CA on 1 bureau low 700's for 2 bureaus and mid 600's for the score with a CA.
