Did the Capital One screening and was pre qualified for the Cash Rewards card with $39 annual fee, applied and was approved, but with $300 limit. Hopefully with good payment history I can have them reevaluate after 6-12 months.

FYI there are companies that offer no credit check financing and report your payment history to the bureaus on a monthly basis. I was able to locate some by doing a search for "add positive credit" on Google. Just make sure they sell a product or service so the account is legit.

welcome to CB, but many of such tradelines are terrible for consumers and in the long run can hurt your score if they are coded as consumer finance lines.

a secured credit card from a solid bank or CU is a much better option.

AmEx was showing me Zync, Green, and Gold but I didn't want a card with an AF. I applied for the Blue Sky and got approved. Originally got the "We'll mail you in 14 days with our decision" message but then checked my application status 5 minutes later and it showed approved. Their pre-selector seems to be one of the better built of the group.

Soooo... I did the pre selector lastnight for the one remaining HSBC link that works. I sign into EC this evening and I have a hard pull from HSBC? Whats up with that? The pre selector site states at the top that it would have no affect on my credit score but a hard pull does! Should I call them on this?

Heck yeah I would call.

That's why I didn't go through with it myself. They were asking a lot more questions than a pre-qualifrier should and I just got a bad feeling about it. Even though at the bottom of the questions they had something posted saying "this will not do any harm to your credit score" or something to that affect.

Glad I didn't go through with it.

I have done the orchard pre-qual several times over the last few years; never saw a hard pull on my reports, so I'd call them on it if I were you. I finally got a non-secured result from their pre-qual last month, so I applied and got it. Cap One on the other hand...did their soft, was given an offer, applied and was denied. They came back saying maybe I should try their secured card, applied and was denied again. I don't know why I got a non-secured hit on their pre-qual if I can't even get approved for their secured. Waste of two pulls...

I did the HSBC per-selector one a couple nights ago too, the one that says "There's no risk to your credit score to view the details of the card." I did it out of curiosity mainly just to see what they give me. Today I see they did a hard pull on Equifax that lowered my score by several points.

I already have a HSBC credit card so I called customer service and spoke to them, was directed to another customer service number and they basically said sorry nothing they can do about it. I emailed customer service and they responded back telling me to call their customer service line again. Basically I am SOL I think, wasted a hard pull for nothing.

That would be a good cause for disputing an inquiry imo.

If you got the hard pull from the Orchard Bank pre selector check your CR. I pulled my reports this morning on USAA and EC and that hard was no longer there. I guess CrapOne/HSBC took care of it themselves. I have not called them because I've been busy.

I've heard bad things about Delta's SkyMiles and how they're relatively worthless. I also don't spend enough to justify an AF, and I wanted a card that I could keep open for a good while. I don't have any travel cards, so the Blue Sky seemed like a decent deal with its effective 1.33% back. And it's an AmEx. I thought it out long and hard, which is why I got the Blue Sky rather than just jumping for a different card.
