Here is a bank that some believe is a bank that does not use chexsystems, but they do. However, there is a good chance that you can still get an account if you can find a specific branch that will hold the policy listed below.

Most US banks “in store†branches are giving accounts to most people on chexsystems. These are regular accounts, not 2nd chance checking...as long as you do NOT owe them money and you are not reported on your chexsystems report for any kind of " fraudulent activity " you can get an account. Even though these branches will tell you that your report can not show fraud, some people with fraud reported on chex have still been able to get accounts.

There are some branches that are still not using this policy so it might be a good idea to call a branch local to you and ask about their policy first before going in. Some US branches have signs that actually say chexsystems, no problem….yet others will not open accounts at all ...from what we have been told you need to go to a location that is an " in store " location not a regular branch. The "in store locations only" are the ones approving these accounts not regular branches. I suggest calling these branches and talking to the manager prior to applying. Make sure they are one of the locations that hold this policy.

-some branches do offer 2nd chance checking but the info above is for regular checking

- do NOT apply online

About US Bank: Early last year I attempted to open a checking account online. They closed it two days after I opened it and refused to tell me why (I'm not in Chexsystems). After several calls they refused to reopen the account, and said there was nothing they could do. They suggested I go into a branch to open the account.

A week later I went to an in store branch in Woodland Hills (California). I had no problems, and the new accounts person told me I was not in Chexsystems (she said their computer checks Chexsystems along with doing a soft inquiry to my credit file). She also offered me a $7,000 Visa card from the same soft inquiry (no hard required). I accepted the card too.

Something spooked US Bank when I applied online. I was never able to figure out what exactly it was. But from this experience, when it comes to opening bank accounts, I do suggest doing it in person, if at all possible. The banks seem more comfortable doing it in person, and can verify your identity right there. They seem to be much more careful, and paranoid, with accounts they open online.

Hi all..

My first post here..I have 2 NSF on Chex from 3 years ago. My buddy and I were driving by a US Bank about a month ago. Went in..Walked out with a free business checking account for my sole prop. Since then I have opened three other accounts (savings and joint with my wife).

So it can be done...

Good luck

Safeway branches in Northern California will open up an account provided that the Chexsystem report does not mention fraud. And they are still running the $75 free grocery special (at least at mine)

I have never heard anyone mention them no.... 1st security bank is an excellent non-chex bank in WA

Just opened a checking account at the Upland branch of US Bank located in the Von's grocery store on Foothill Blvd and Euclid Ave. I had tried earlier in the day to get an account at Golden One Credit Union was denied due to being on Chexsystem from B of A (knew about B of A--was surprised that WAMU and Wescom Credit Union didn't show up as well). I currently have a saving account with B of A (my checking account was closed--just waiting for them to close the savings account too for zero balance) and an account with Peoples Bank. Peoples Bank has been good to me, but it's a PITA waiting for deposits to clear and annoying when I need to cash checks (Thank God for Wal-Mart and B of A). I knew I needed a local bank for my needs. Heard US Bank offered accounts to folks in Chexsystem at their in-store branches so I decided to take a chance. Since I'm a student at the University of Phoenix I qualified for their Student Checking which is free checking with a $25 minimun opening balance. They're also offering a $75 free groceries offer if you open with $100. Hopefully US Bank won't do a sweep and cancel my account in the next few months. Will keep my Peoples Bank account open for a while before I cancel it.

BTW -- It was super easy to get the checking account. All I had to show was my ID, my debit card and my student schedule (since I was applying for student checking). I didn't have to fill out an application. The CSR just asked me for my SS# and she entered all the info into the computer along with my address, home and work phone number and work address. She then issued me an account number, routing number and a few newbie checks. She offered to open a Visa account for me, but I declined it knowing my credit was super ugly. I only had to sign one form in two places. The form indicated the chexsystems had been checked, but no records found???? Since she barely had time to type in my info, I don't think chexsystems had been checked or will be checked later. Basically I was in and out of there in less than 15 minutes with a new checking account. If everything works out, I will treat US Bank like pure gold and stay away from the evil payday loans that destroyed my B of A and WAMU accounts.

Just FYI. I have read many places that US Bank will give people a second chance in opening a bank account - That's true as long as you don't owe them money; US Bank does in fact use Chexsystems, they were the ones that put me on there in the first place, otherwise I would have never heard of it.

yes if you go to the OP you will see that you can not owe them money or have any type of fraud listed on your report.

none.. they will not close your account .. congrads and very good luck ( may I ask what state you are in and which branch it was? )

MN is different than most other states and has strict laws and most reported to chexsystems can not get an account at US bank. Do you still owe money to the reporting bank(s)/ How old is your report?

Posted

Some people have said that when they applied at US bank " in store locations" that their reports that were older than 3 years did not even show up when US bank pulled up the chexsystems information. Definitely give it a shot.

remember after 5 years it should be removed so make sure it does. If you decide to pay it, make sure it is AFTER the 5 year period now at this point so it is not updated for an additional 5 year period
