Please help with my student loans

I have had a Student Loan with Sallie Mae since 2000. Deferred until 2003, since still in school at that time. On time payments since 2003, with the exception of 90-120 days late Sep-Oct of 2006. Around October 2006, I was finally able to start making payments again, called a Sallie Mae rep, and the rep. asked if I wanted a forbearance for the times I did not pay. I said okay, and having been on time since.

 

I have a letter from Sallie Mae showing the forbearance dates which included Sep-Oct 2006. I have sent this letter to all 3 CRA - but all came back verified as lates.

 

I have also sent a letter to Sallie Mae, asking to correct because these were in forbearance, and even sent them a copy of their own letter they sent me showing the forbearance dates.

 

My question is, can anything be done about this, or do I just have to wait the 7 years from delinqeuncy?

Retro forebearance does not exist....thus you are going to have to wait it out. They expect you to call when the financial issues arise, so you can get a forebearance going foreward if necessary.

You found out the hard way.

The retroactive forbearance is basically good for post poning payments (present & future) and eliminating past due amounts (from past missed payments).

 

Sep-Oct 2006 you were still late and no forbearance or deferment will get it off of your record unfortunately. You could try to dispute but these ppl keep very good records (as required by the Feds because they lend Federal $$$$) and answer disputes very quickly.

 

You could try to dispute ever so often but you are fighting a uphill battle unless there was a legitimate mistake made (you really paid but it didn't post or something).

 

I too am in the same boat and will be sending out a blanket dispute for my 90-120 days late S/L TL from years ago.

Your only hope? A ridiculously charismatic goodwill letter with a stack of hundred dollar bills and as many prayers to God/Allah/Buddha/The Sun/Joe Pesci as you can perform.
