Or you could man up and actually pay the debt you owe to the creditor whose money you spent.

How do you know the money is actually owed? In most cases, it can't be proven. Are you aware of that?

don't forget... sometimes these CAs come after debts that were included in bankruptcy, paid off already, over 10 years old, or a million other reasons why the debt is not "valid".

I'm all for paying debt I owe.... I'm not into paying someone who can't prove it.

EXACTLY. For example, I had two rather large hospital bills that I had paid directly to the hospital BEFORE it was suppose to go to collections, however, due to the hospital messing up the paperwork, my payments did not get recorded and I had not one, but two JDBs coming after me AND reporting on my credit reports. Luckily, I had the cancelled checks to PROVE that I had paid the debts IN FULL BEFORE it went to collections.

So, let me ask you Mikey, should I have just rolled over and paid the two JDBs for the hospital bills I already paid?

You MAY want to try and conceal your identity a little better on this board. People here AREN'T stupid!

I'm hardly involved with any CA. I think forums like this, fw, bogle are all great; except when people chime in and complain about money they owe and how much of an inconvenience it is when *gasp* they try to get it back!

At the point most CAs start contacting you, the OC rarely wants it back - they sold the note to the CA (for pennies on the dollar) and wrote it off as a loss. Others can't afford to pay it back due to job loss or illness. Do they deserve to be harrassed constantly because of it?

It is indeed Friday. I see that a troll has wandered over from CI, or whatever they're calling it these days.

So Mikey, is "man up" part of your phone spiel?

to be honest though...people SHOULD "man up" if necessary...

for example, since we can't use a CA as an example, because they can't ever prove anything

so let's use something else...

let's say you're arrested for drinking in a place that's prohibited...for public intoxication...

a person in that case should own up to it and accept the consequences...not lawyer up and get off with a slap on the wrist....

right?

Pyran,

Simply stated...

YOU DA MAN!

The more consumers get educated and wise up to these bottom of the barrel trash debt collectors, the better society will be. And dear Mikey the dissenter, I think the vast majority of CB'ers believe in "manning up" and paying bills we actually OWE... but not paying some loan shark junk debt collector who ruins our credit rating due to something that was not our fault. I think maybe you need to "man up" to the idea that consumer advocacy is a good thing for the world?

I don't disagree with that. I disagree with the ploys these phone drones use to suck money out of their victims. Also, I had never heard that exact expression before.

and for all the REAL members here...take a look at Mikefitz....he joins today...coincidentally ripping on people that want the CAs to obey the law

Yet more proof that the CAs lurk here and are TERRIFIED of people that know their rights.

Keep up the GREAT work CB'ers....let's keep THEM on the run...keep THEM lurking in the shadows, afraid to come out of the dark

Where do you think these poor bastages learn anything at all of how to play by the rules? it isn't collectionindustry.com :

OMG... you know what, I don't owe it, I am not paying it.
Does some one really remember a $98 phone bill from Verizon from 1994???

And I should pay that because you say I should?
Why shouldn't you have to prove I really owe it? I mean really, I can't remember that I even had verizon as my phone provider back then, but OK AFNI, because you are obviously an honest person and after 13 years you must know what you are talking about, I will man up and send you the check.
And while your at it, please just copy my routing number and account number so in the future when you get bills in my name feel free to automatically debit the account for those too.
