I recently consolidated my student loans into one loan. I recently found out after the consolidation process late payments showed up on my old student loans accounts. I would like to remove these late payments, does anybody know how I can do this. I have already tried to dispute the accounts with the credit agencies.

You are stuck with them if they are valid. The Higher Education Act requires that all student loans report for the full seven years.

Lynn does this mean that if, like me, one had some lates on the CR from citibank. and now the loan has transferred to NYstate Higher ed services and is in rehab, I could not write citibank and beg them to delete the old lates?

Exactly. Your loan is defaulted and part of default reporting is that both the original lender and the guarantors negative comments are on your credit report. When you finish rehab, your NY state tradeline with reflect current but the Citibank tradeline will stand until it ages off.

This is 7 years from the DOFD, right?

I keep seeing that there is no way to get rid of late payments on a student loan, but is that for federal student loans only, or does it apply to private loans as well?

Late payments on private and federal student loans can be deleted, but it's not likely.

Generally speaking, both types are serviced by the same places (Sallie Mae, ACS, Nelnet, AES, CLC, etc). Since they use very sophisticated systems and keep records forever it's not easy.
