Ever since I started reading all the info on here(particularly by George) about not needing to show ID with a signed credit card it annoys me to get asked for my ID. I know they aren't suppose to ask for it but I generally do show it because I am a wimp and hate confrontation. It has just really started to irk me when I hear them ask for ID. I actually almost said something today to the sales lady.

I was asked a week or so ago at IKEA. They refused to sell without ID! I walked. Filed a complaint with VISA. I know have a letter on VISA letter head with the rules on it and a case #. Plan on going back to IKEA shortly....with letter in hand of course!!

I HOPE YOU WERE SPENDING MORE THAN JUST $20

DON'T BUY ANYTHING (even if they back-off) AFTER READING THE LETTER

I dont understand what all the fuss is about? Don't they ask for ID to protect you the consumer? Something Im not aware of here ???

All my cards are signed "CHECK ID" and even with that they dont ask for it very often; though I wouldnt mind if they did. I figure they ask maybe 10% or less of the time - I truly wish it was 100% of the time!

Even if the card is signed they tell me they need to compare the signature to my lisence.

2-3 seconds is all it takes to show it. Pick your battles because in life, there are bigger battles worth picking! :good:

I hate to disagree w/GEORGE since I have received such good info from him. But I have agree with lilone, there are bigger battles in life than arguing with a $7.00hr clerk about Visa/MC policies.

At the same time, little battles like this can be perfect practice and give you the much needed confidence for bigger battles that may want to pick later :good: ...just my 2cents

I have to admit when they ask for ID at Sally Beauty Supply I show it. I can't afford to walk out without my tube of hair color.

It annoys me too. I usually just show it and then mention to the cashier that it's against visa/mc policy. I know they' are just doing what they were told to do.
