Hello all, I am 35married and withdrew from my bsn program in 1999 d/t diagnosed w/cancer. Well i've been clean for 4 years now and have 2 healthy kids, 7 and 3. I had been fighting with the university d/t a transcript hold and grade errors and finally got everything corrected and xfrd to new school. I figured I will just xfr and get my adn RN since I've already finished 3 years of the rn program, but the bsn clinicals are too far away and full time and I need to keep my part time job for insurance d/t my condition. At least while I'm in school. I can handle it, I worked the whole 3 years I did it before.

Yesterday, GREAT NEWS. all ...ALL... of my classes xfrd except the nursing ones (which I didn't expect to, beings it's a different program). 5 nursing classes and I'm done. They have the option of evening and weekend clinicals, and I will go for that.

The part I need advice on is that there is a waiting list. Ok fine, I've waited this long, but the part I'm concerned about is financial aid. I decided to be proactive and did the FAFSA online. EFC is 1250.

No problem there either. But I put "not sure" with enrollment time /b/c I'm not sure. Is it ok to put in for fafsa if you don't know if the waiting period will open that year or not? Will it cause harm?

The efc being 1250 I should get Pell and Ohio Instructional grants , but I don't remember having to pay anything upfront previously before grants and loans. Does the efc have to be paid upfront???

I'm going into the school tomorrow as I have to get a book for the Pax test, I just feel a little overwhelmed and nervous.

I love creditboards and would much rather talk here!!!

Mazzystar,

The EFC is just "Estimated Family Contribution." You don't pay this up front. It's just the government saying at your financial state you should be able to contribute x amount towards your education. Since your EFC is roughly 1,000 (going by memory), you should qualify for 5,466. http://www.regents.state.oh.us/sgs/ExcelTa...202006-2007.htm

I'm not sure if they go by the Federal grants first, then supplement with the ohio grant. Either way it seems your tution/books (and have a little extra income) will be covered.

Maybe I'll see you on campus sometime.. I'm from NE ohio as well. Feel free to email me if you have any other ohio school questions :)

thanks for replying!

I guess I am just concerned b/c I filled out the fafsa just in case .All 5 of the classes I need I cannot take until my place on the waiting list comes up. I just hope it doesnt hurt that I filled it out and may not be able to take anything this school year(although I want to get it done). I was going to KSU, xfrd to Stark State.

Mazzystar,

No problem. LOL.. I go to KSU, moving to Kent in 8 days. Actually my sign language class is right next door to you. It's in the Theater building for KSU-Stark... I'll be there on Tue/Thurs :( I know that with Kent you can "decline" the awarded amount. Stark State should be the same. My opinion is take more classes especially if it's free money (look at classes that would supplement your major)

thats the thing, I don't need anymore. 83 credit hours transferred. I don't feel like taking fluff courses I don't need (risking my gpa), ya know. I would hate to dismay by telling you Kent State is my nemisis. They took 6 months to fix wrong grades on my transcript, holding up my transfer. They took about 8 years to release the firm grip they had on my transcripts too.

Perkins loan which I thought was consolidated 8 years ago in with my other loans. It is now, but Kent showed it defaulted.

Anyway, I will NEVER go back.

Once I get my adn , i can convert it to bsn with less than a year at Malone or somewhere closer.

Kent had my driving to downtown cleveland, youngstown, you name it.... hee hee

geesh

I hear ya.. yes I screwed up my gpa.. but I earned it since coming back .. I need to have a 2.75 to declare Deaf Education.. last semester I had a 2.733. So I took a summer class and got a B which brought it up to a 2.745... do you think they could round up?? Nope  Unfortuantely, Kent is the only college around here that actually has a great education program. You go girl :) Let me know which hospital to either come to or depending on how you do on your boards.. avoid :sorry:

I thought that you could get your BSN strictly through Main? I hear that they are restructuring their administration in the Nursing Program. Thanks for the heads up though with the loans.. (mines through Direct - but now I've added a Sallie) Should be a interesting few years left to go

I was commuting to main from canton 3x week and cleveland for clinical 2x. I cannot do that now. I have to keep my job and finish. I always get stuck with cleveland clinicals. Akron and Youngstown go too fast.
