I wrote this for some friends so that they could get their reports for free and not screw it up, hope it helps!

This method will allow you to contact them via a toll free automated system to receive your credit report for free. No need to pay them for access to it and alot cheaper than paying for something you should have free access to anyway.

If you want to have free access to your F.I.C.O . score from Equifax for a thirty (30) day free trial, check out the Score Watch product from Equifax. Please cancel it before a year, after the 30 days it will cost $79.95 a year.

Let's start with Equifax :

First, the toll free number for Equifax is 1-800-685-1111.

1. Listen to lengthy message and at the very end, the automated system will say hold for additional options. Hold for addtional options.

2. Press 1 (not 6, the option for the FACTA free report, that gives them 45 days to respond, versus 30 days. If there is something wrong with your credit report, you want them to correct it in 30 days, versus 45 days.

3. The system will prompt you to enter Zip Code

4. Enter Numerical Part of Your Address, then Press #

5. Enter Social Security Number, make sure it's correct and then press 1 to confirm

6. At this time, just get the credit file, so press the option for credit report only (Press 3)

7. You want to wait for the prompt that says have you been denied credit, unemployment, insurance, or other adverse options. This option is to Press 2.

8. Press 1, this option will give you the option of NOT having the full social security number on your report, just the last four digits.

9. At this time, the system will give you the confirmation for your report, you should receive it shortly in the mail.

Experian 800-509-8495

1. Begin by calling the toll free number for Experian above. Wait for the option to order a copy of your personal credit report or credit score report (Press 3)

2. Press 1 for Copy of Credit Report

3. You want to press the option for adverse action of some type. Being denied employment, credit, insurace, (Press 1)

4. The system will give you this long flowers message about instant online access to your report at Experian Report Access . Stay on the line, for options to receive a report sent in the mail. In order to use the report access site for Experian, you would have to have alot of knowledge of past accounts, old counties you lived in and other information, but if you're impatient, it's a good way to go.

5. Wait for prompt to enter SSN and then #.

6. Wait for prompt for entering zip code, Enter Zip Code then #.

7. Wait for prompt for entering numerical part of your address. The numerical part of your address excludes apartment numbers, etc. Example, 123 Mulberry Lane, Apt 2, Anytown, USA 20001, would just be 123. After entering numerical address, press #.

8. Press 2 to continue, and wait for final message that you will receive the report. Wait for your free report in the mail.

TransUnion (800-888-4213)

1. Begin by calling the toll free listed above. Disregard the messages and prompts for the free report provided the FACTA Act and the "Central Source", press 2 instead.

2. The system will go on about buying the report online for a price, disregard this and all the prompts for the state you may live in. If you have been denied insurance, employment, negative change in credit limit or other adverse action. Press or say 3.

3. Wait for prompt to enter SSN, followed by #. The system will prompt you to verify it is right or wrong, if it is right, press 1, if wrong, press 2.

4. Wait for the prompt to enter the number of the month that you were born in. For example, enter 01 for January, Enter 02 for February and enter 03 for March, etc.

5. Wait for prompt to enter the four digit year you were borin in.

6. Wait for prompt to enter the five digit zip code.

7. Wait for prompt for entering numerical part of your address. The numerical part of your address excludes apartment numbers, etc. Example, 123 Mulberry Lane, Apt 2, Anytown, USA 20001, would just be 123.

8. Disregard prompts about score, it will cost you money, and not really worth it. Follow last prompt to receive your credit file.

That's awfully nice of you to post this for everyone. Just remember, you have to have been adversely affected to recieve these reports. Otherwise, you are lying and cheating the system. Remember this: We should not f**k with them any more than neccessary. It will only make life harder for all of us.

How good would that be for us if all 27000 members here started getting free credit reports by defrauding and lying to the CRA's.

I would suggest only using these options above if you have been denied credit or another type of adverse action has been taken against you. Otherwise, do the right thing and pay for them once in a while.

Isn't there an 800# that someone can call and purchase one from the big 3?
Use the same 800 numbers, but select the option to BUY your report. They also offer options to buy their fako score, and to dispute via phone.

Called each CRA and purchased by phone a copy of my report.

The process was fairly straightforward.

I was surprised when TU required me to state my employer.

Is employer information displayed on credit reports?

TUs automated system would not process my purchase without employer information.
