I just found these boards today and already I feel I am farther ahead just by reading them. My backstory is this.. I will keep it short and sweet. I was real stupid - Ex boyfriend/fiance took me for 50k and trashed my credit in the process. After a few years of being very angry at myself for being stupid I finally caught the lightbulb that said I was only punishing myself by ignoring the past debt. HE certainly isnt having any problems since the new wife has deeper pockets than mine.
I spoke to a morgage lender and he said I need to up my scores by 60 points to qualify for a house - which again pissed me off since I used to have a nice 760 - but oh well moving into the here and now, I was advised that I needed the collection agencies to send me a letter removing negative commentary off my reports as I got them paid off.
So far, Sallie Mae has refused to remove any negative comments (which I gather by reading here is their normal position)
I have gotten ONE thing removed completely
Today I was absolutely discouraged when I talked to the guy from AvanteUSA who not only was a jerk but said he was the boss and there was nothing I could do and no one I can talk to other than him( which I find hard to believe because why is the boss answering the call center phone?). That they wouldn't remove it from my CR and would only mark it off as a paid settlement, which I am pretty sure is just as bad as the collection sitting there.
My first goal (in the next 9 months) is to life my scores that 60 points so I can get a house and move across country, then I will work on cleaning the rest of it up.
So far today I have Opted out of the credit agencies sharing my info and sent off a check for a National City secure credit card. Both of which I hope will help
My scores right now are:
XPN 609
EFX 582
TUC 551
In any case I thought I would introduce myself, say hello and mention finding this board is the best thing to come out of my day.. So thanks

I am so happy
I have started out by mailing out goodwill letters to some of the Banks for late payments , and I have also send out dispute letters to dispute my personal information. My question is, I called experian today to dispute my address information, I asked them to update my address to the current one,and they refused to delete my old address, now should I just go ahead and start mailing out my validation letter to one of the collection agency that is after 30 days or should I keep pressing on for the old address to be deleted? Trans union agreed to delete the old addresses
thanks everybody

If you want to stick to the Bankruptcy forum for awhile, it's easy to find. Just go back up to the top of this page and click in the credit boards logo. You'll see a list of different forums, scroll down the page till you see the bankruptcy forum and click on it. The first group of threads are "pinned" at the top for quick reference (like stickies on the other site). Just keep scrolling down till you see the current threads, and start posting! The bankruptcy forum is all together, it's not sorted out like the other site, but I think you'll like it here - no POWER MONGER moderators! giggle
Again, welcome - hope you had a nice Thanksgiving!

Hi everyone.. I think you have a great site here!!! This is my first post and I need some help. I went to myfico.com to order credit reports and scores 47.95... The order would not go through and customer service claims three CRA'S will not release information. Nobody seems to know why. I pulled free reports and scores a month ago through freecreditreport.com... apparently this is the source of problem.

Myfico.com claims they are unable to procure credit reports and scores after failed attempt to order. They claim CRA'S will not release information, noboby seems to know why after speaking to several CSR'S. I ordered free reports a month ago from freecreditreports.com at the time was unaware of fako scores until visiting this site.
Can anyone tell me how I can get CRA'S to release reports and true fico scores?

After 2.5 years of reading, planning, checking it out -- PROCRASTINATION CITY!! -- I"m still a newbie.
But I'm starting now.
Anyway, I waited...until three judgments reared their ugly heads. Went to court and got them vacated but with stipulations of settlements with the three creditors.
Are their any pitfalls I'm not aware of in just sending the CRA's copies of said stipulations highlighting the fact that the judgments are vacated and need to be removed from the CRs? I can only imagine.
Also there's another one from 2002 from my landlord, paid immediately which was actually a technical "judgment for possession" and should never have been filed as a money judgment.
Will just a letter from the landlord be sufficient for the CRAs to remove it? Do they even have to remove it?
Thanks so much for this wonderful resource!
