I use a Mac (Tiger) and had no issues with it. I get a small message screen that says: "File Error. Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognize." I don't get it........ I googled National City Bank. I found lots of different cards, none were secured. ![]()

did you download to your hard drive and then open it? sometimes that works when a pdf file won't open for me.
I emailed it to the email you used for your CB account, in case it's a problem with downloading from here for some reason. #6

Is there a link for this bank? I use a Mac OS X with v10.3 panther and it would not allow for the download. Thank you. You might also try using Acrobat Reader instead of Preview to open the PDF. Just right-click on the file icon (once you've downloaded it to your desktop, that is), select "open with" and then select Acrobat Reader from the list. I was able to open it with both programs when I tested earlier today. This post has been edited by sfbehr: 08 January 2006 - 02:00 AM #7

Try using Safari. Works great with the built-in PDF viewer (in Tiger only).

This is a pdf file you can print, fill out, and mail in to apply for the National City secured card. How does a secured credit card work such as the National City one? You send money "security deposit" with your application and it used to pay your outstanding bill if you fail to pay it,if the bank uses your security deposit to pay your bill means you are a bad risk and your account will canceled. If you pay your bill on time your "security deposit" stays with the bank untill you close the account or you are being upgaded to a non-secured CC. #11

You can't apply for National City's secured card online. If you can't download the application file, you can call National City at 888 622-4932 and request an application be mailed to you.

I wanted to add this info.
I read on CB that National City Secured does not 'graduate' you to an unsecured product. Instead, they issue you a new card, resulting in another TL, that is unsecured. While this isn't necessariy bad, if you no longer want the old card (and the $3 monthly fee), then you must close the old card, and this would result in a small fico drop because you are losing the age and end up with a closed account. From what I've read on CB, the BofA 99/500, and the WellsFargo secured products simply upgrade your exsisting account to unsecured after 12 months of good standing. So you get to keep your 'aged' info on your CR. Just wanted to metion that. National City has been good to me, and it's very easy to get. YMMV -NineCount #17

I was declined for a 100% BofA secured card while being approved for 2 Amex cards. Declined due to a 4 year old unpaid CO that is being handled by my attorney. ![]() ![]() I heart CB! I have gone from FICOs in the 300s and 400s to 600s and 700s and lost 129 erroneous negative items across the 3 CRAs since July of 05. We are now proud homeowners because of the incredible people on this site. Thank you so much! #18

Hi all, Quick question. I have misplaced my National City App and just downloaded the one on here, problem is what adress do I send it to? Thanks, National City Card Services 4653 East Main Street Columbus, OH 43213-0410 800-762-0974 I would call just to double check. That is the address I use to increase my credit limit. One last thing you don't have to close the secured card in order to get an unsecured card with NC. If your scores and reports are good enough you can apply directly for one of those cards and have both, if approved for the unsecured. #20

I have a question for those who have this card. How does this this card look on your credit report? Is it scored differently than a regular card? Are there comments on the trade line that gives it less clout than other cards?

Are there comments on the trade line that gives it less clout than other cards? It does not report any differently than any other unsecured card. It is not considered a subprime card at all. I really like it. #22

Reports the same... GREAT. Thanks for the info. How about join accounts versus individual accouts? I want to do this for me and my GF but I can save $250 if applying as a co-applicant is the same (in terms of FICO) as not having one.

Personally, I wouldn't put anyone who was not married to me on as a Joint anything. But if you feel comfortable I guess you could go ahead and do it.
Also you really aren't spending $250 on each account because it is a refundable security deposit. When you close the accounts you get all of the money back. This post has been edited by belleama: 26 January 2006 - 11:23 PM #24

Ooops.. did i say GF. I meant the wife. Old habits die hard.
Yeah so what's the deal on a this CC with a co-applicant? (in terms of Fico). Its the same as if there were no other applicant right? Two positive trade lines (1 for me - 1 for her) for the price of one. Right? ![]() ![]() Individuals with HIGH CREDIT LIMITS are NOT necessarily individuals with a HIGH NET WORTH “To know that you do not know is the best.
