Has anyone asked for and received a credit limit increase with Cap One ?

Just wondering.

 

I have 3 Cap One CC's with credit limits of $500.00 I was thinking about asking for an increase to $1000.00 for each.

 

All 3 have near zero balances and I have never been late on any payments.

 

Thoughts ?

FYI, I decided to call Crap One to see about getting an increase on my $500 and $600 toy cards (one a year old, and the other will be two years old in Jan)...Called the number on the back of my card and hit the CLI option. As mentioned by another poster, got the "Crap One is not offering CLI's at this time by reps or automated system..you will be notified when eligible,,yada,yada.."

 

Called the number I used for last increase (I believe its the retention #) and told rep that I had just tried to request an increase via automated system and was told that no increases are being given. Asked her what was going on....

 

Her reply, oh ma'am, we might be having problems with our automated system, because I'm showing here that I can increase your limit today by $300...Told her that I wanted my second card increased as well....BAM $300 there too....Was on a roll, so asked about any special BT offers....For card #1, 1.9% and for card #2, 2.9%....

 

Hey not a whole lot, but for CRAP ONE any success is a HUGE success....Measly increases will still help with utilization.....

 

The number I called was 800-889-9939 for those that want to give it a shot... Good luck!!!

THIS COMPANY WILL NOT GROW WITH YOU !!!!!!! Use them in the rebuilding stage only.

 

I'm through with them. It's already payed off and sockdrawered. Will probably call them before the annual kicks in and if no CLI...will cancel.

I've had my card for about 7 years and it was at $200. Now it's at $2,700 so it finally grew with me.

 

2k was with a balance transfer offer.

$500 was right before Christmas, they did an automatic credit increase for a bunch of folks on the board.

I actually called the number posted by Bhill and said the same story about the automated system not working and I just got a $1000 CLI on a $500 limit card. So it did work. I have asked in the past and failed. So maybe this is a way to get a CLI from Cap1. YMMV

They eliminated my monthly fee last month and gave me a cli of $250 in October or November. I know... its not alot, but it is something. I would love to close this card but it is my oldest open tradeline. At least I don't have an annual fee anymore.

when I closed my crap1 card it was my oldest trade. my scores were not effected.

 

as long as your file is thick there is little reason to hold onto crap1's toy cards.

OMG I can't beleive this! called that number and lady explained to me that the automated system is broken for CLI but she will glady review my account and gave me an extra $1,000

I called the same number with a 6 month old $300 limit card and they gave me a $500 CLI. Very easy. Too bad they don't report limits.

I have a good record with Cap1 I always Pay on time, max it out then pay in full. My total credit line with them is now 3k. The rep was also telling me about some BT offers they have going on now....

 

 

BTW my credit limit those show on my reports.

to answer your question I had a couple of 30 day lates close to being outside the 2 year mark. I was always maxed out with them. I actually was close to 90% when they sent me the bt and we will up your limit to 2k offer. I needed that 2k to pay off my providian so I did that and within 2 months paid that balance to $0. Then they upped me $500 more for being such a good customer.

 

Now I am a platinum *laughs* Capital One member (of course with the same sucky APR)

I'm sooo happy to see that so many of you had success with the number I posted. That is the beauty of this board...soo much GREAT information gets passed around and recycled. I originally got the number and idea to call it to request a CLI, as opposed to any other number, way back when from a post on this board.

 

No, it doesn't report the credit limit, but I had no problem using it to charge Xmas things that I was going to pay cash for, and then just use the cash to pay the cards, so the new limit reports.

 

I've learned so much from this board and I'm still continuing to learn every day. I don't post a whole lot (I actually took almost a year's break since I joined, and am just getting back into the swing of things), but I do try to post any info/experiences I have that may help others.

 

No matter how little you may think you know compared to some of the wonderful vets here, you never know how your info/experience may help someone else. We're all busy at times, but it takes two seconds to reply to a post that may help your fellow CB'er. I can't say it enough....CB ABSOLUTELY ROCKS!!!!!

I called the number to request a CLI, was told that I am not utilizing the account enough to have a CLI granted. Told the rep that I am not utilizing it because of how low the limit is. Bottom line looks to be that if you use the card then pay off consistently then you would be more apt to get a CLI.

Wow... Thanks BHill. I have two accounts (one won't be six months until Jan 4) so she was unable to increase that account. But my other account 1.5 yrs I got a $500 CLI!!! I will call back in January to see if they can increase the Visa. For some reason Cap One likes me. I had a $300 toy card; after six months of on time payments and 60% util then PIF, I got the max limit on my offer (3K). Then I got the preferred plat plus (w/e) with an initial CL of 1000 (which isn't crap here) but for Cap One and their 200-300 cards was a good deal even though it said line up to 5K. Hopefully I will get a 4K CLI when that account is 6 months old too. Also saw in my statement last month that you can combine 2 into one by calling a number. Once I get the increase I will do that. I'm a minority. I like Cap One.

myself, even though I am perfect with C1, I was turned down online. Havent' tried the phone number, but I think I will tomorrow.

 

DH has a no annual fee C1 card he uses and pays off every month. It's original limit was $3500 about 5 years ago or more. Now his Fico is in the 740 range and they would not raise the limit a year or so ago. But just last month they automatically raised to $7500. After 5 years or more of perfect history and never carrying a balance!

 

I always try to get him to switch to another bank, but he just doesn't take the time to apply.

I have had Cap1 since July 2003 with a $300 limit which they will not increase. I have perfect payment history with them. I will be closing it in Jan unless there is some super offer from them to make me keep it.
