DH said he went to a tool store the other day and they had a $5 minimum on their credit card sales. DH didn't know they couldn't do that. He went in to buy 4 screws and the total came up to $4.

The guy told him "There's a $10 minimum on credit card sales." DH told him "Well, can you just charge me $10 because I don't need anymore screws or anything else from here- just these 4."

The guy told him "Oh, don't worry about it then." and gave DH the screws for free.

:)

So they'd rather give away $4 worth of stuff than to ring up a sale for less than the minimum?

If it was a small hardware store the clerk and the owner may be the same.

Either way they are VIOLATING THE MERCHANT AGREEMENT...

But hey, if you want less than the minimum they'll give it to you for free... so that's nice.

4 screws probably cost the store next to nothing to begin with, so that could play into it.

Even if the fee for credit cards was 25% of the purchase, I'd rather get 75% of the $4.00 ($3.00) instead of $0.00

Very true.

Sometimes you wonder though if these merchants are using fly-by-night processors that charge excessive fees.

Even if there are "high fees," they signed the agreement... they should follow it.

Have you every tried to pay a ticket with a Credit Card. THE COURTS CHARGE AN EXTRA CHARGE TOO. Think they care they are not compling with their vender agreement. Its all about the money just look at any court case in So California and you will see it all about the golden rule.

"THE ONES WITH THE GOLD MAKE THE RULES" and they can change them as they need to.
