Computer was down so the guy had to call it in.
Used my debit VISA but ran it as credit and the guy asked to see my ID and I said "you know it's against VISA merchant policy to ask to see ID for a signed card and you can get fined for it"
he said "we do it to protect YOU from identity theft"
seemed mad I told him that
ha, I'm going off to report this violation, where's the link for it?

My day at the mall.
1. I stop by Macys(formally Burdines in FL).I purchase a 3 thousand dollar diamond and a handbag for my wife costing about $450. The salelady and I talk about 15 minutes etc, I never have to show my I.D. for the transaction.
2.I stop by Foot locker for a pair of walking sneakers, about $65. The 18 going on 12 year old girl demands my I.D. and has a "Im gonna call security look" on her face.I said no, cancell the sell. She dosent know how to refund the sale because the CC allready went through.Long story short.....I told the manager(i.e.stupid drone#2) not onlly am I upset, but I think I can see the future now ....and it involves my fingers tickling the phone buttons calling the corporate offices of foot locker and my lawyer because Im upset and crying now.LMAO.
My experience is............for large purchases in upscale enviroments....the sales person dosent want to "embarase' you and lose a sell.
In places like sneaker stores...where people come trying to use whatever means to buy 1 million dollar sneakers....you will get I.D. for buying socks.!!!

you poor baby. why don't you go call the ID police and immediately report him.
Wow, you must not know that we have rights as card holders. I feel sorry for you for being sucked into this blow-up by the media about ID theft, shame shame.

Sounds like the customer service rep is trying to PROTECT you!
If this was YOUR stolen card there would be way more hoops for you to jump through than showing your id.

blow up by the media huh? don't know much about ID theft? you need to spend more than 3 months on a consumer forum before you make assumptions.
I know much more than you obviously. I understand they think this will stop ID theft, but it doesn't change the fact that it's against VISA merchant policy.
also, many CB'ers learned TONS before they became OFFICIAL members, you shouldn't assume because when you do......well you know how it goes
"picante"l.....not so hot anymore......you're cold now!

DON'T LET ME STOP YOU!!!I don't blame the merchant for asking for ID. The store is the one that takes the hit if they get a bogus card - not VISA, not the customer, not the bank, but the store. My local Wal-mart sometimes asks to see my driver's license. I don't see it as a big deal.
WHY NOT GIVE THEM YOUR SS# AND YOUR CELL # AND YOUR HOME ADDRESS AND KIDS AGES...MOTHERS NAME AND HOW MUCH YOU MAKE PER HOUR WHILE YOUR AT IT!!!

I just wanted to take a moment to laugh outloud at the mod's thread topic.
