Can anyone help me with this?
Got a DUNS number by saying that I needed it to go goverment bids
and the next day I logged in and presto my numbers there...then today
I get this message:
Warning:

What's up with this? Has this happened to anyone else on this board?
Let me know your comments.
Thanks.
It could be as simple as when D&B tried to call your company to verify that you were real and no one answered the phone. Once you "blacklisted" it can be very difficult to get off of the list. You might even have to start from scratch

I would like to know how some of my vendors can provide information on my business and my dealings with them to D&B for inclusion on my business credit report.
If that business does not have a reporting contract with D&B, you will have to pay D&B for their creditbuilder program to add the vendor. Call and check with your vendor, as some vendors only report a portion of their accounts, or only report if you default.

I followed the advice that I read in this thread:
1. Called to inquire about DUNS nu,ber status.
2. Adv. that I needed to apply for a few federal grants within the new few days.
3. (The rep tried to sell me the "additional service".) I adv. that I would need to talk to me business parters. Took her direct number in case I needed her (just to be polite)she transferred me to the Federal Dept.
4. Gave the rep all of my info:
- Business Name
- Bus. Address & Phone number
- Other information that it asked me when I was applying online.
5. Got DUNS # at the end of the phone call.
The rep also said that the number would not be active for another 2 business days, but I got it!!!!
P.S. I have not filed my Inc. papers yet. She said it will be set up a as sole propriator until I call back to notify them that this has been done (she let me know that she could not locate it in my state's Secratary of State Office......

You should have waited until you were incorporated before applying for a DUNS. Too late now.I had applied for my DUNs number a few days ago online, I was not enthusuastic that I would have to wait 30 days for my number.

Once you incorporate, and your DUNS is active, you will be able to start with the basic net 30 accounts. Did you get your eupdate log in information when you spoke with the person from D&B? That will tracking your progress a lot easier.

Darn it!!! I didn't think about that. Will it cause any major issues?? Or is it just a matter of waiting until I Incorporate to to attempt to get any credit???m
I did not get that information.. Maybe I will call back later in the week and get that info..

So I just got off the phone with a salesperson, basically told me it was gonna be 30 business days. Like above, can I just call the federal govtment part and say I wanna do federal contracts even tho i am in their "system" persay? If so, is there anything in particular other then my info I need to provide them?

The rep I spoke with told me that I would need to register with CCR... (government contractor thing..) and advised that if I did not I run the risk of hacing problems later on....

Yup, if you got you DUNS through the government 'express' option, if you do not use it for government grants/applications you can get your file flagged. Has happened to gettingstarted.I had applied for my DUNs number a few days ago online, I was not enthusuastic that I would have to wait 30 days for my number.

Also, has anyone ever thought of there is Experian,Transunion and Equifax for personal credit but why is there just DUNS? Or is the paydex considered a seperate entity from DUNS? I mean kinda seems like a monopoly on business credit reporting? And therefore they can get away with the "30 business days" to get a number unless you pay for it!

There are other business credit rating agencies, but D&B is currently the largest in the number of businesses it rates. They do NOT have a monopoly, and are starting to lose market share to Equifax and Experian.
On to the other part of your post,
Getting a DUNS through the government grant site can pose a risk. People have had their files flagged because they applied through the government site and never used it for government purposes. Getting your DUNS through the regular site does take about 30 days, but take into consideration building business credit takes a lot longer, and requesting your DUNS is just the first step.
There really are no short cuts in building credit for your business. You will need a LOT of patience.

Then, if for some reason, they search for your company, they can see that it has been used for that purpose???
I would think it would just look bad if you don't use it for its intended purpose at all....
