Forbearance eligibility changes

Does anyone know when they changed the forbearance process for direct loans?

Last year (or the year before), I was able to get an economic hardship forbearance by simply filling out the form online, stating that I was unable to make the payments now and intended to do so in the future.

Now when I try, it makes you enter your income and decides if you qualify or not.

Forebearance is an administrative delay of payments. It has always been subjective. Have you used your deferments?? Those you are legally entitled to.
