Thanks for that info ! I understand now. I plan on buying 2 7 plus year old shelf

corps and building over a million dollars in corporate credit with them in the next year.

Thanks, drew3918

I think this thread needs just a little revision in regards to acquiring the Duns number. A business really doesn't Need to sign up for a number at all. The number/file will auto create when your first net 30 account reports history. Frankly having the Duns number before any trade activity shows up is rather pointless anyway. Most of the net 30 starter vendors will happily open you a terms account without you having a Duns number. Calling up and asking for a number is just going to get you a line of BS from a commission hungry Duns sales rep.

Let your Duns file auto create just like your Experian business file does. It is NOT necessary to go get your Duns number. Stay off the sales reps radar by letting it auto create. Once your business shows up under the Duns search you will know it's auto created and can go from there to secure your eupdate password. File a request through their entities department. They in turn will call you back and verify business info. They then should send you a password within a couple days or you will then be able to request it online without hitting an error screen. The error comes up because you have not verified data with them yet. Once you do this through the entities department you will more than likely just get the password emailed to you, but if not, getting it online should be easy.

Again, Let your Duns file/number auto create and avoid getting your new file stuck in the sales department's system. Yes, you can get it through the government link, but just getting the number isn't going to get you anywhere because the file will be empty. The file/number is useless until the starter vendors net accounts start reporting.

Has anyone else been able to confirm this?

Argh! I checked my file via DB to see if anything had changed since I received the number in July 2007, but my company is still listed as DS even though I have 2 reporting and added a 3rd, though not reporting (have not used the card.) Now I am getting regular calls saying my personal credit is at risk and I need to get their credit builder program.

I'm new to C.B. so please excuse me if I make a mistake...But i have a question if anyone care to help me..Can you purchase an automobile using dnb number?

Posted

I believe you can. I have seen several posts and it sounds pretty easy enough. If i did not have 2 car notes on my personally credit i would of used my business credit instead

okay, so I have a few companies with similar names.

I am able to find one company, but not the other DUNS. BUT, the one I can't find on their site, I was just approved for 30 lines of phones from Sprint, so my credit must be good on this 2nd company. So I assume they pulled this data from D&B or another reporting agency?

They pulled it based on my tax id, is there a way to find out how they determined my credit?

829, don't believe the sales pitches. Your personal credit is only at risk for items tied to your SSN and only if those items are negatively reported. As for the status of your rating, the DS rating isn't a bad thing. If you didn't have a paydex, then that would be an issue. I was old that the DS rating won't change until you have 4 or more trades reporting and then you would want to maybe follow-up with the entities department. I have actually had somewhat pleasant encounters with that group. So once you get to 4 reporting, give them a call, it may help.

If you pay for DNB credit builder and they have not help you in the 2weeks but only emailed you a receipt can you dispute it and get your money back! Since no services rendered as of yet? I am thinking about doing this through my credit card I am not happy with them at all. They said that i needed to pay this to update my information and i have never recieved a log in as of yet!

Any advance--- I was happy not having a paydex and then decided what the heck lets see what i can get by having one.

How did you get approved for so much credit with a paydex? I know that on most of them you do not need a paydex, but for items like the Key bank, how did you get approved?

I needs some help!

Okay I am the business mgr of a new business registered with state of NC in 11/07 as an llc.

I got an DB number today using the govt contracts route I found here on the board and we acutally do contract with the state

through a local authority.

I tried to pull credit reports today but the site said the agency had no credit report on file but we do have credit cards with Office Depot and Staples.

I tried to get an eupdate password today and rec'd an email to call an 888 #. Upon calling the rep wouldn't give me the password b/c i am

not registered as an officer in the company in their files. My reason for wanting the eupdate password was so I could update our info in their system so now I have to get the owner to call to get the eupdate pwd.

Once I get the password what is next?? Should I get Staples and Office Depot to report our payment history?

What do I do next? My exp in mainly governmental so I have never really dealt with Dun and Bradstreet numbers before...Thanks for any help offered!

OH and I subscripted to a credit evaluator thinking th at would get me in but that was a no go...I'm cancelling that now..

Oh, I know. I do not see how D&B is even relevant anymore :o ? I am going to be pressured into buying anything. We really do not need credit at the moment, we are just slowly building and letting the business stand on its' own merits. We have never missed a payment and generally pay off all cards before we get a bill.

I am in the process of forming a real estate investment company and I will not even worry with DNB. If one forms then good, if not, then that is ok too. I am sure we will turn up on Experian or somewhere else.

I just applied, was not ever declined for Keybank actually i asked for keybank rewards on my app they sent me regular keybank mc and i called back and she the agent told me to resend the application. So i got my bill for this month and i now have 2 which i am not surpose to but i will see how long i can keep it. I am using both MCs and they have the same limit. So if anyone has the regular mastercard without the rewards call them and say i would like to the rewards and see if you can get the other one too. They will tell you that you can not have both. But like i said they transferred whatever low amount i had on my regular MC to the rewards and gave me a new rewards card but did not cancel my old one.

Good Luck

most likely when you call they will try to sell you something.

call them back and see what they say.If they try to sell you somethin gplay dumb and say you just need the number for govt grants.  They should leave you alone.

Missty why would you assume they want to sell her something? It could be she made an error in the app or something or tried the password too manytimes..

Stop thinking they d and b are out to get everyone, if that was the case they would not have been around so long..

It isn't an assumption. That is how DNB works. They will tell you whatever it takes to convince you your number is useless without purchasing a package from them even if it means bold faced lying. A rep at DNB by the name of Mark actually went as far as to tell me that DNB supplies Experian with all of their credit information. I can assure you that isn't the case and when I spoke to a rep at Experian they were less than pleased with the info.

So again it isn't an assumption. I'm not saying that at some point in the process it isn't a good idea to purchase a product from them but being lied to in order to close a sale is horrible.

What I always suggest to our customers is that when the initial call comes in from DNB be completely honest with them. Let them know that when you need their services you will contact them directly but until that time you only require the free number.

D&B is playing a bunch of games w/ alot of folks. I have an 80 Paydex and called to see why my status is still DS. They rep told me I needed to buy Credit Builder. I told him that didn't make a bit of sense as I already have 6 TL's reporting & an 80 Paydex. I also reminded him that a few weeks ago I purchased the $9.99 Unlimited Company Monitoring and if he was saying that I HAVE to purchase a product that cost a couple hundred dollars. Of course he couldn't provide me w/ a solid answer and told me that my status would be updated w/in 5-7 days and a rep would call me back to confirm. Yeah right.... I'll see & report back.

Wow, I've learned so much since posting this a few months back. LOL!

In building credit for my 2 LLC's & 1 Corp I noticed that in + to a Paydex, you also need a Rating & Commerical Credit Score (from DNB). Once I finally received my Rating, the approvals came rolling in. DNB's Company Monitoring has allowed me to "monitor an unlimited number of companies, receive automatic e-mail alerts regarding changes on all companies in the View My Reports/Alerts section of my account." The information provided from the alerts also let me know when to move ahead in applying for more credit or CLI's for myself & clients. Sure I could always check e-update or go through the back door, but as my client list grew it became a waist of time to pull the reports and see nothing had changed. Plus the reports pulled by e-update or the back door doesn't provides the Paydex & Rating, but not the detailed scoring info that I receive from the alerts.

I also noticed that when I enrolled in DNB's Trade Exchange (report my clients payment info to DNB via QuickBooks), my Commerical Credit Score increased.

Basically what I have learned prevents me from prematurely applying for credit & racking up inquiries on Experian & Equifax. That knowledge coupled with the informative posts of Zicman, Ace, helcat, drew, and a few others have really proven helpful. I'm learning to sit back and let some things age before applying for the next round & anticipate some nice CLI's. September marks the one year anniversay of Biz 1! This fall I am taking four courses, two of which are directly related to business:

Business Law 1

Women as Entrepreneurs

I look forward to sharing the info from these courses w/ you folks here on CB, thanks!

Could this be a record? Applied for my number one week ago today. Friday got a call for "more information" and got the run around about how Ineeded to buy something to have the number do anything for me. I told the guy on the phone, "Let's pretend that if I'm smart enough to be the CEO of a corporation, I'm smart enough to know you're bullsh!tting me. Just process my app."

Today, 7 days later, I received my number. That was QUICK!

First post, I got a few questions:

This thread has been around for about 3 years...and I read in the earlier stages of this thread that the quickest way to get a DUNS number is to go to ccr.gov.

I read later in the thread that some people registered there, and were told that their account would be disabled if they didn't apply for some goverment thing within 30 days.

My question is this: Is ccr.gov still the quickest way to get a DUNS? If so, is the 30 day thing true? Will they really disable your DUNS? If this is indeed the best way to do it, and they don't cancel...here is my next question: Where EXACTLY do I go on that ccr.gov website? Is this what I do:

1) Click START A NEW REGISTRATION

2) Click for expanded details under item 1 (DUNS number)

3) Click the link on letter b which links me to this site: http://fedgov.dnb.com/webform/displayHomePage.do

4) From there do I select "Click here to request your DUNS via the Web" ???

After that of course I have to fill out the forms...but is this the correct process?

Also, do I have to complete items 2-4 on ccr.gov new registration (2- TIN, 3- Statistical info about your business, 4- EFT)???

OR

Do I just finish the forms on the DNB page (Request your DUNS via the Web) and forget about ccr.gov at that point?

Someone please help me. Thanks.
