losartworks Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 Just a note to beware of applying too much with Household stores (Best Buy, CompUSA, Sony, Northern Tool, Costco and others). Apparently their strict guidelines for approval are sometimes overlooked by an underwriter who isn't doing their job and a person gets approved in error. This is especially obvious when a person with limited business history pulls a 7500-20k line of credit. Trust me, it's usually an error. IF you slip through the cracks and get approved. DO NOT apply for ANY other household cards! DO NOT call them or otherwise bring attention to the account. let the computer process everything. Get your card (call the number on the back of it then to check you have available credit) go buy something. USE the card. If you need something large, now is the time. If they happen to review the acct later and your carrying a balance, esppecially a heavy one, they are not going to be able to shut your acct off easily as they have already erroneously given the acct and products. If you dont use the acct and apply for others with them, there is a VERY GOOD chance an underwriter will see and focus in on this. if anything stinks to them you will loose every household bank acct you have. They apparently have a habit of giving out erroneous approvals. DO not assume you will get approved for their other cards. This advisement is more geared towards those with newer corporations. Definitely for those who don't even havea corp. or otherwise anyone with newer established corps or businesses or business credit. By the book, Household guidelines for approval are pretty stiff. If you have one of the career underwriters sniffing around your file and something isn't kosher, you might loose it. Don't wake the beast with mass applications. I and others have made the mistake of assuming we standa good chance of approval if we blanket app many household cards at once. that mistake personally cost me $23K in credit. Be careful. Quote

The card just showed up in the mail. The only other factor I can see is that they are able to match addresses. I already have a pers Lowes card at this address. I wonder if the sytem sees that, matches my name to the address and says ok, we've already given him a line, we'll give him one for the biz even though it doesn't have any history. I don't know if that made sense. If so, could this be used to override other systems like chase, citi, mbna, etc. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I tried to do this online, but the web app form gave me the following message: "Thank you for your interest in opening an account at Lowe's. You reside in a state that currently requires a signature on credit applications. Consequently, we are unable to process your application on-line." I went in the store sometime later and got an application form and faxed it in. A couple of days later, I think I got a phone number from a thread here somewhere and decided to check my app status. That's when I found out I was denied. The stars just didn't line up that day or something... BTW, I have no personal Lowe's card. I'm not too worried about this one. I'm going to adopt rigirl's positive outlook and try to apply again later once I have my Paydex. Quote
