Mike, out of curiosity, is a card like the Citi Forward harder to qualify for because it has nice rewards?

I want a Forward because of the rewards (better for amazon purchases than amazon's own card) and I like Citi's virtual/temp credit card feature. However, if the Citi Forward is harder to qualify for, I'll go for a different one and then try to switch later, or try for an entirely different card and wait to see if I can get my score up into the excellent range before trying for the Forward. I don't know my actual FICO all I know is creditkarma's estimate which is good but not excellent, and looking through CreditKarma's list of cards, among all visa and amex it shows, the Citi Forward is the ONLY card that CK thinks I have a poor chance at getting.

Perhaps very nice reward cards are harder to qualify for, because the rewards end up cutting into the bank's profit (and thus buffer if there end up being credit problems), but what do I know?

loxosceles, forgive my bad manners :), I should have thanked you for your interest in Citi Forward.

Regards,

Mike

loxosceles & Meltz, I'm not going to say 'I don't know' because that would be a lame answer. Some of my answers take a little more time than others, so I'll be back in touch soon. However, you should know that federal regulations are such that I cannot say anything that would discourage a person from applying for credit. So, you're not going to get a "yes" or "no" answer on someone's chances of being approved. But, I think there is some light I'll be able to shed and correct some general misunderstandings........stay tuned.

Ahh gotcha. That'd be nice, also a little info for the thank you perferred would be awesome. Thanks!

Have to say so far my experience with Citi on the banking side has not been that good. Had a checking acct get suspended, which Citi neglected to even inform me of, it was simply missing when I logged in to the site.

Right now, a decent chunk of my $ is somewhere in the middle of ACH-hell and is supposed to be returned to the original institution in 3-4 business days. Citi says the other guys didn't release the funds yet my online account transactions history for the other guys shows otherwise.

This is not a good start. I have second thoughts of even bothering with the ThankYou point opening bonus and just closing the thing now.. :-/

Wow, that really makes me reconsider if I really want a citi card or not. One thing I can't stand is horrible customer service! Hope everything turns out good.

I'm only talking about the banking side. Love the credit card side of Citi! They seem totally separate, even have different website logins...

tjguitar, this is not the experience I want you to be having with Citi with your bank accounts. Please send me an email or a private message on CB, and I will escalate this issue and have an experienced representative see it through with you. Regards,Mike Cardace, Citi

tjguitar, thanks very much for the compliment to our cards business! It's nice to get good feedback. I will be sure to pass it along to that team, it will make their day. I also want to mention to everyone that Citi is in the process of merging our cards and "banking" businesses together online, so that customers will be able to manage all their accounts from one site with one userID and password. This will be completed in 2012. If there are any questions, let me know.

Thx!

Mike I applied for the citi thank you preferred and my app went for review, then I was declined. I don't agree with the decision and I'm gonna see if I can recon it. Do you know anyone in particular I should ask for that could help me out?

Hi Meltz, you can try calling this number: 1-888-201-4523- M-F 8am-8pm EST However, from what I'm told, you'll likely be informed as to the reason Citi declined the application and which credit bureau was used. You will then likely be advised to contact the credit bureau to ensure what's being reported is correct. Let me know if you have a different experience. Regards,Mike, Citi

Yes they aren't very helpful, I called that number. I was wondering since I applied for the citi thank you preferred, if I applied for a college card such as the forward college card, would be approval chances be different or the same? And I was also wondering if they could use the same inquiry since my CR hasn't changed in the lat few days when I applied, also so I don't have another inquiry. Thanks.

Meltz, I'm sorry, but another application will mean another inquiry, we can't use the same one. Question, are you currently a enrolled as a student?

That sucks, and yes I am. A rep told me my scores are high enough for me to qualify for a student card such as the forward.

Meltz, for obvious reasons, I can't make any comments on whether or not you'll be approved for any Citi credit card. However, If you are enrolled as a college student, I would recommend applying for a college/student card. Mike, Citi

Mike, look I'm the one who started this thread! I have a question for you. I'm trying to find information on any referral promotions for Citi Forward. Do you know if there are any active at the moment, and if you have to do anything to qualify? Thanks!

Mike, I have an issue perhaps you can help with. The short version is my Citi Forward card number was compromised in data breach and due to incompetance a CSR in a call center decided to delete ALL of my Citi accounts.

I logged into my Citi Credit Card accounts this morning to be greeted by a message stating the card number of one of my accounts had been compromised. As a precaution, Citi had suspended online access for this account and would eventually send me a replacement card. The instructions given were to call a toll free number to speak to a CSR.

I immediately called the number provided to speak with an account representative. As I travel frequently and check my online account daily, I asked that the replacement card be overnighted to me. This was not a short conversation and took approximately 30 minutes with many frequent periods of being placed on hold.

Doing the next best thing, the account rep CLOSES my two other cards! When asked why he did that, he became confused and then mentioned my other "Citi Platinum" account had been compromised. This was horrifying, as the online system said nothing about this. Keeping with the general tenor of the phone call, I was immediately disconnected after he let this tidbit go.

I then spent the next TWO (2) hours on the phone both placing and fielding no less than 4 additional calls to Citi to understand what happened:

- The card number from my Forward was compromised by a data breach

- The first CSR for an inexplicable reason decided to close my other two cards, deleting them from Citi's system. This was terrible, as several subsequent CSRs and supervisors had ZERO record of this card, even when looking it up by my SSN

- Citi MAY be overnighting me replacement cards for these accounts

- Citi will be attempting to mail to me within the next week a replacement card for the account originally breached.

In addition to the 2.5 hours spent on the phone, I now have to deal with the stress of updating my online accounts to reflect the correct card information simply because the original CSR "was very poorly trained" (according to second line representative I spoke with) who without my consent decided to delete two perfectly good accounts and re-issue cards.

I've been a faithful Citi card member for years and was simply speechless at the poor level of customer service and incompetence displayed.

My concern now is twofold:

1. I want my new cards (all of them) sent back to me quickly

2. I do not want to lose the account history I have with these/have 2 or three new accounts inserted on my credit report.

qwerty4, I know "I'm sorry" doesn't cut it, but I'll apologize nonetheless for this terrible servicing experience. You deserve better. I'm going to send you a PM so we can continue the conversation and get this stuff resolved.
