I'm also all for honor...

but then the problem comes in when the consumer, as far as they know, owes SOMEONE something...

but the OC won't accept it...and the CA can't show that they're owed a penny....who do you pay?

To be honest, if I get the debt cleared, and the OC refused to accept it, I'd probably donate it to a charity in the OC's name...but then again, I've never believed in something for nothing...

I don't believe in something for nothing either...I don't think many people here do...

so let's say you donate it to charity in the OC's name....

then the CAs continue attacking you....

doesn't do any good, other than assuaging your conscience...

So, newish boyfriend, first weekend up at my house, all is good. This A-Hole comes to the door and rings it on a Sunday morning and tells this guy that I owe him $650 (including his own interest at 18% per annum, calculated and expanded monthly, with no contract, for 4 years) and hands him a bill for money he is owed...

That is what got me started here. I wrote that guy a letter, deducted the interest, paid in $100 installments, and told him every law that he broke. I also said that if I ever saw him near my property that I would call the police. I spent thousands of dollars there over 20 years, probably $30K in landscaping, if not more. I will badmouth him to anyone who will listen.

However, he brought me to you guys.

Why did you even pay him that?

I paid what I legitimately owed him as a small business owner in a small town. but not a penny more...He was his own collector, there was nothing on my reports but I did what I thought was right.
