You "FEAR" giving your real ZIP CODE...use 90021...it is one of the many in DOWNTOWN LA

I just say 90210. It's easier to remember.

And for stores like TigerDirect that require a phone number my number is 867-5309.

I've never been asked for a zip by a cashier AFTER it was known that I was using a credit card. I've been asked for a zip code before a single item is scanned at many mall stores.

I used the local AAA OFFICE number

It ended in -1111

What is 867-5309 and why should I know that number???

I would love for anyone to sue me for asking for zip codes.

Or for addresses, phone numbers, or any other personal information - since it is a requirement of the state that I have that information in order to do my job...

Certain merchants are required to ask for and get that information - but I do not require that for a cc transaction, but for the customer transaction (customer and cc holder most of the time are two different people)

If it is indeed a state requirement or law, then that would trump any private company policy.

Could you be more specific as to your state and type of business and exactly why such information is needed?

Only allowed for a delivery (or setting up a direct to credit card billing)

STATE LAW IS BS... (no such state law)

He/She works for the BMV or another government agencies that is allowed to request that information. He/she never said anything about the CC policy. Would you really not show your ID at the BMV?

"IF" one works for some STATE agency that has to have...

NAME

ADDRESS

CITY ST ZIP+4

PHONE

That agency would need it for cash customers and check customers NOT JUST CREDIT CARD CUSTOMERS

(if they take credit cards)

Trying to say it is state law to ask for the personal information is taking it way--->

I feel sorry for you George, Dont take everything so seriously, I have learned that. especially here. George, you got escape life some times. (I dont mean drugs) Since I can not afford to go on trips. My escape is the internet forums, message boards, newsgroups, tv. I am on dial-up at $10.95 a month. I have limited basic cable for about $20 a month. For example, to keep my mind off things I learn everything about debit cards and not just US debit cards, Every country debit cards. Did you know if a person has a maestro logo on their debit card, there is a good chance you could use it in Germany at places that take Just the EC (Electronic Cash Card) as a pin transaction provided your bank support foreign pin transactions. Since Germany is mostly a cash country and a lot of places do not take credit cards.

I also dream of traveling. I would love to travel around the world and see interesting place shown on the travel channel but dont have the money. I will most likely never see Niagara falls or the underground city in Montreal, Canada

I actually enjoy the nice debate we have/had in other threads.

I know for a FACT some retailers have to ask for DOB. In fact one just contacted me because they are being audited and I did not give DOB for a relative I sent a gift too.

When I worked retail, if the customer declined to give a zip code we entered "00000" and the system recognized that "customer declined."
