Many companies such as nebs, have mailcodes that give you a steep discount over their expeinsivo regular prices...

do a google search for a discount code for any company you are considering doing business with... especially if the order form has a entry line for a "coupon code" or "mail code"...

Okay, you know researching is my thing so here goes ... I've been reading up on biz credit on different sites and the one thing I keep running across is that you should not keep calling D&B because their reps are trained to get more information about your company each time you call them and to sell you various D&B products, its what they do. The bad part is that each time they get more information from you on the phone or you inadvertantly tell them something just to get them off your back, you could be getting a red flag status or fraud alert as not being a legitimate company. Moral of the story is, carefully fill out your company profile in the VERY BEGINNING when you go to EUpdate. Don't call them every time you get a hankering. The rule of advice seems to be is that after you get 5 companies over at least a 3 month period, you will get a Paydex rating, so don't keep calling. BE PATIENT.

I have been seeing this advice for awhile but wasn't sure if it was legit. But it seems from the experiences on the board there must be a little something to it.

ITA - they always want to verify and update info - we don't know what they're doing with it.

No, this is come commercial photography I lifted off a travel site. :) I do have some of me on the beach at Playa del Carmen, looks very similar, but I would have to fool with the flatbed scanner to post it, and I don't want to go crawling around under all those wires. ;) Maybe later I'll post some of my real beach pix.

I had a nice website (built in 1997) with all that stuff on it, they went to paid site, never notified me, and when I went to pay them to be able to get my files and move them, it didn't recognize my password. :( Soooooooooo - now all those files are only on the notebook computer my nephew has - he's supposed to save them. It was about 20 webpages of stuff. Aggravating

Where did you get your business address? Do you actually do business out of that address or is this a virtual office. I am trying to find a business address in San Diego, CA

Posted

Holy Cow. I found this thread last night and continued reading this morning. Awesome thread. I have made it to page 38 and will continue to read the remaining threads later. I have a quick few questions.

I have a home based SP business (wedding and portrait photographer) that I started in August 2002. I would like to start making everything legit and building credit under my business name.

First question. After reading this thread I realize I need to become incorporated. Is this the correct form to fill out (for Arizona) http://www.cc.state.az.us/corp/filings/for...orms/cfcvlr.pdf ://http://www.cc.state.az.us/corp/fili...cfcvlr.pdf ? I believe it's $60, based upon this website http://www.cc.state.az.us/corp/filings/for...ndex.htm#feesch , does that sound right?

So after I become incorporated, I need to get my EIN and TIN under that name, correct?

What are the following steps?

I have read all about how I need to get a phone line with 411 listing in my name, open a TL with fedex or ups, apply at Staples and get a DNB number.... in what order do I need to do all of this?

At this time I cannot do the credit builder but perhaps by October I can. Until then, what do I do to start building credit under my business name?

Thanks! I plan on contributing to this forum A LOT now that I found it!!

BTW, my name is Brandy. Nice to meet you all.

ok. called 411 today 72 hours later sure enough I am listed 411. Would it be cool of me to apply for Staples credit now or should I wait for 1st phone bill?

Here is a really dumb question from a newbie to the business credit world:

How does one verify their business is listed with 411, exactly? I just signed up with my phone company, using EIN number, with a business address. The phone company tells me the business will be listed with 411 a few days after the phone line is installed.

How do I verify this 411 presence before applying for business credit?

Recap: I opened my biz (C corporation) in 2003.

Opened a Biz Phone line (more expensive then a personal line)

Used a Different Adress (not a home based biz)

Paid $400 or so to DnB (www.dnb.com) for CreditBuilder

added 3 historical vendors to my profile

1) furniture store where I bought my desk and chair and filing cabinet

2) The Company I buy Toner from for my printer

3) another vendor, I dont recall (the comapny that designed my logo and stationary?)

waited until I got my first phone bill for the corp.

Applied at www.staples.com for a biz account, faxed in the printed application with a copy of my phone bill.

Approved $750.

waited 2 weeks

Applied for a cellphone under the business (T-Mobile)

approved for 20 lines max. (i wanted one  )

waited for the first bill to arrive, paid it.

Called 800-917-DELL for Dell (www.dell.com) small biz division.

aked the rep about what programs they offer, explained that I have a business that is on DnB, but my personal credit is low FICO because of high balances, etc.

He told me "well, sir, all I need to tell you if you are approved is your name, biz name, and biz phone".

Got INSTANT APPROVAL for $10,000 (CIT) long term finance.

Bought two computers.

No SS# or PG was required.

Got approval, Some components arrived already, laptop already being delivered tomorrow (if someone is there to accept the delivery). I check the status on www.Dell.com, so I know that the stuff was already sent out.

after several "almosts", got the nerver to apply for home depot card based on the biz (No personal info...) recieved 7-10 day screen.

Called two days later... APPROVED for $3000+!

tried to get an increase on the spot, was transferred to a senior rep, who said that they count not increase the amount now, but would first need to see a 60-90 day pay history, and I could try again at that time.

RAN to home depot, got a tempory pass (so i could FEEL the approval  )..... today I spend $2000 there. (now I can finish the apartment rehab, rent them out, and start seeing some money!)

I am not positive who issues the Home Depot Commercial Card (Citi USA? Monogram? GE Capital?) it seems that different bank names come up on the website, app, and temporary pass.

I'd be happy to share my limited knoweledge with anyone who needs help in this area.

to Reiterate: All the above is WITHOUT a PG, on a NEW Corp.

is there anywhere were i can do a free crdit check on the net and what utilities do they use for doing one

is there anyway i can do a free credit search on the net and what software do they use to do one

I'm not sure what you're referring to. What kind of credit search?

Instead of adding to this thread, why not start your own in the biz credit forum? This one is great but it's already really really long.

BizCredit,

I read your post on how you obtained business credit and was truly inspired. Do you have any employees? I heard somewhere that the number of employees can influence your biz credit rating. Is that true? What type of business did you start? I'm considering starting my own business also but with a bad credit rating and quite a bit of educational debts, I can only aquire the necessary equipment with business credit. I'm a newbie (obviously) so any help will be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance!

recently purchased a shelf corp with date of 1999 and ein number.

office max and office depot both turned me down on the biz credit card, however, Sams approved 3000.

I will just get office supplies and furniture from Sams and Walmart

Any idea why you were tured down for office max and office depot? Do you think it had anything to do with the past history of the shelf corp you purchased?

Is there a type of software program that can print this out as a text file. I would love to print this out and read it offline but don't want to sit here and copy paste 63+ pages by hand.

Any ideas?

Have been reading through this thread from the beginning, and had a quick question.

I need to set up an alternate address for my business. It's been said in this thread that places like Mail Boxes, Etc are 'flagged', and are known by DNB. Is there any way I can check if a 'mail box center' has been flagged? I dont want to set up a mailbox, only to have DNB to turn me down.

Otherwise, anyone have any other options? Price IS an issue, or I'd just rent my own office space :)
