BTW, there are some perks that have not been discussed in public here or on FT and are by request only. They are sub rosa for a reason since it seems to some extent the perks are customized to each cardholder's needs.

Heg,

tried to PM you but the site won't let me. Can you PM me with the perks of having the Palladium? As always, thanks for your advice on CB!

Is anyone concerned that this card will be come diluted.

Not me. Even 50,000 of these would only be a drop in the bucket compared to most other cards. And I read a post somewhere that said that only 2500 or so cards had been issued as of December 2011.

There are millions of Amex Platinum cards out there, and supposedly a few hundred thousand Centurions. Adding more card holders will provide the opportunity for more benefits--though there will be diminishing returns with respect to service level at some point. The card has been around for at least three years, so it will certainly take many more years(and for Chase to make the card generally available to the populace without any of the current PB, PC, or phone screen vetting) before that becomes an issue.

Those of us that read these boards (along with Flyertalk, Myfico, etc.) are such a small percentage of the credit card carrying population that it becomes all too easy to think that the universe we communicate with is the same as everyone else. By definition we're an exclusive bunch so I don't worry too much. In fact, I'm more concerned about the opposite--not enough card members to make benefit expansion a sustainable reality.

I agree with you...I am more worried that there will not be enough card holders to warrant more/better benefits. Think about the Centurion...the fees are in the thousands per year so it is pretty easy to offer some nice perks without impacting profit (not including the usage fees to retailers). With the PD the fees are only ~600.00/year (yes..I know that is a lot but not comapared to Centurion). I called today and requested United Club and was told that it is only for card holders who have booked a United flight through their PD card. I told the conc that I have several flights booked through my JPMorgan Corporate card to Denver and wanted to use the UC and she had a supervisor approve. Makes me feel a little like they are already clamping down on some things...maybe I am wrong...just made me wonder.

I received my United Club membership card today (and I don't even fly United but it gets me into the *A alliance lounges and UA clubs where Delta isn't available). I am one of the people that has received "special perks" such as the membership to a non chase partner airline club (Delta). After obtaining the UA club membership and being told by a US Airways club rep that I can access any US Airways Club with the UA Club card WITHOUT a US Airways ticket, I emailed Palladium and told them that I spend about $10k-15k a month on my Amex cards and that the only reason I have Amex Platinum is for the Delta Sky Club access. I offered to cancel my amex platinum and shift over an additional $10k-15k in monthly spend (in addition to my $6k-14k spend now) if they could get me Sky Club. The next day they called me and said go ahead and charge a one year membership to your Palladium card and we will credit it. I charged it and the next day they credited me.

I didn't go public with this because there are plenty of people (including some here) that have this card just because and would simply call and try to get Delta Sky Club access for the hell of it. I'm sure this will happen anyway (with this post) but hopefully Chase will weed these people out and pay more attention to people with significant monthly spend. This was sort of hinted to me at one point when they mentioned they want the Palladium program to be more individualized to the cardholder's unique needs. So far this has held to be true.

Yeah...I see what you are saying. It makes sense to me that they asked about my flights as I havent booked anything on United with my PD card yet (although I have booked a few other flights and hotel stays). For what it is worth once they saw that I had booked the United flights through my JPM Corp card they approved the UC and said it was ok to charge individual visits to my PD and they will refund until my membership is in the United system. This is an interesting model...basing it on individuals unique needs...the conc did say to me that there are benefits that are only offered when you take a particular action (like booking a United flight and they will automatically suggest the UC enrollment). I am really interested to see what kinds of things pop up!!

On another note...I mentioed above that I have JPM Corp Card...do you think they have a view into that world as well? I know that when I requested the Corp card they pulled my SSN, pay...and the bills are sent to my home even though my company pays them. I do a ton of travel and entertaining on that card and it would be great if it contributed to whatever customer profile they have on me...I just wish my company would let me use my own card and reinburse me for expenses...

I'm glad you got the United Club membership. I'm quite happy with the Delta Club membership and I will be closing my Platinum Amex very soon. I tried to do it a few days ago and they gave me 15,000 membership rewards to keep it open. The Palladium card is better than the Platinum Amex because you get actual club MEMBERSHIP rather than "access". For me to access the Delta Sky Club I would have to show them my boarding pass, amex card and id. Now with the club membership they can simply scan my boarding pass. Its a much more simple process.

Hegemony...I am waiting for the hardcover book. Csr told me I will b getting the 2013 version with some new bennies in it...said it should come out in August

I am not pleased with the card today. I made a payment to PIF a balance just about equal to my limit and the "available" has not been released. I was able to use the card, however, so charges are still being approved; just a normal chase payment fraud issue.

After midnight or so you should be good. I had the same issue the other day but as long as my charges are still being approved I don't really care. I am having a problem with getting too close to my $25k limit and I think it might be time to ask for a credit line increase. Have you considered this yet ?

I moved some other chase limits to Pd so I've not had an issue and besides, the main reason for a CLI (at least for someone like me) is to help with utilization but since this card does not report >100% is not an issue.

I wonder if I should just apply for another chase product (to get a signup bonus) and then move the limit over to PD... I'd like to be at $50k.

What's the point? When I went over, they auto raised it to double original limit and said they would do it even more. Wasn't a big deal. Bothered me so I called my banker and they raised it to 250. Looking back, probably wasn't even worth taking the time to do that as they just auto raise it.

For which?

Remember the actual credit line of these cards is at least double of what it shows. It will auto raise after a day or two if you go over your limit. This does not require credit pull.

As for raising my actual limit, it didn't involve credit pull as I am private banking client and they just look at your portfolio and I think you can raise it up to 80% of portfolio value upon request. I believe when I asked for credit raise on credit, they were talking about hard pull so I just used the private banker.

the last time I asked my intra-cycle spending limit is 3 times my "hard" limit.

You're right, though, that it is not something worth worrying about.

I guess you are both right. I called and was told I can charge 3 times my "hard" limit of $25k without any further review. So I decided to forgo any request of a CLI because its moot.

I wish they would do free companion pass for full fare business/first on more airlines than just BA. It could have come in real handy for the trip I am planning for summer and too bad I don't have an Amex Plat as backup.

the BA companion perk was phased out last year IIRC

That perk is a joke. I priced this out with Amex before on Delta. You have to purchase a full fare C business class ticket for the companion ticket. Almost every time one C fare ticket is more than double the discounted business fares (D,I,J) and it is just easier and cheaper to buy two discounted business class tickets.

My limit is only 15K on PD as I have a CSP as well. Having the min limit makes me want to ask for a CLI just in case there is ever a move to downgrade customers to Select. Can a front line CSR tell you if you qualify for an increase without doing a pull?

If you aren't doing the cli through your banker (ie based on your assets with jp Morgan) but instead through your credit, I was told it would be hp.
