my card says 2006, my online says 2006, my credit reports say june of last year. booooooo. been that was for the last six months. no update

Yea, I added my GF to my amex accounts and both reflect the 1990 date online and on cards, but both report 2011 and 2012 respectively. Strangely, I got my mother to add her as an AU to her acct (the account from which I was backdated), and that AU account reports as 1990 on my GF's report.

Not sure what determines how they report it, but my suspicion is that once my GF has her own card backdated then they will all report the 1990 date. Purely speculation though.

I have cracked the code  and have proof to show for it, online showing new year already. Will wait and see if it sticks for a couple months.

Not posting details here. :P

I applied for an AMEX Premier Gold Card today and was approved!

I currently have an individual AMEX Blue dating back to 2007, but I am an AU on my dad's account which dates back to 1999 (I was about 12 at that time lol). At any rate, toward the end of the call after handling some other inquiries, I asked the rep could I get my member since date changed from 2007 to 1999. She initially stated that as an additional card holder I could not, so I told her that my dad's account actually reports on my credit. She placed me on about a 5 minute hold and came back saying "I can submit that request for you and everything should be updated to your 1999 member since date". I was surprised at how simple that was. After reading about other people having some issues I knew this would take more than one phone call, but it didn't!

So now I'm just waiting to receive new cards and hopefully my credit report gets updated on the new gold card and my existing Blue back to 1999. As a med student, I need as large of an AAOA as I can get!

Take home message:

I'm going to ask mom to make you a BI, but you breathe a word of your method to anyone, and we'll rip the stripes off. ;)

Definitely not the take home message! With loan disbursements occurring every semester (about every 6 mos) My AAOA is affected...

Hmm. Just got my wife backdated to 1995 on the AU card she has on my account. Shows up online and they are sending in new card. When I called credit bureau unit to make sure it was going to report 1995, they said it it was policy to report when AU was added on to card which in this case was 12/2011. Is this true? I know in Nov 2011, they changed policy to no longer backdate AU to original cardholder member date. But in my case they wouldn't even backdate reporting back to her original member date. I am pretty sure that if I added her today as AU, it would report a 1995 date or if she got her own card, it would. Should I wait to see if rep is right or should I call credit bureau again? Do you think I am right about adding her on another card and it reporting 1995 and/or having her getting her own card? Advice?

Past experience has been that it may take a few cycles for correct reporting to occur.

If the login page says Member Since xxxx, that's what's going to report eventually.

So are you saying to hold tight and wait for AU card to hopefully report correctly? Think I can juice the process by having my wife app for card herself?

I must have misunderstood, when you said wife's original Member Date, are you saying she doesn't have an AmEx of her own any more?

If she is not a Primary Cardmember, getting backdated is tougher.

When she logs into AmEx, if there is no Cardmember Since at the top, she needs to get an AmEx of her own for the backdate to "stick"

She was AU on her parent's AMEX a long time ago. When I added her on to my Plat recently, it gave her the 12/2011 date and member date of 2011. Got proof from her parents on her old AU card. They changed her member date late last week. Sending her new card and showing 1995 member date on her login on the AU card. But when I called the credit bureau to have doublecheck when they would report the new date, person said they don't do that for AU.

So is her best bet now is to apply for her own AMEX to lock in member date and hope the AU reports correctly? Or call back credit report bureau or something else?

@rebuilding2010, yes that is correct.

If we can add him to DH's card and then backdate to his start date... that would be amazing! Am I understanding this correctly?

John23213, what on earth did you say to them to make that work? It sounds... impossible!

You are understanding the process correctly, however, the person I added as AU did not have a current Amex card so YMMV. I don't see any reason it wouldn't work for a current holder, unless you are trying to add them to a card type (blue, zync, etc) that they already have one open version of themselves (even then it might still work).

I wasn't the first person to do this, back on page 24 Jesseegnew was in the same situation with a parent with an old closed account who couldn't get their own card now because of current credit issues and he had the exact same results. All I said was "Hi, my mother/father (my AU in this case) was an account holder back in 1980 and I just got their new card but the member since date says 12, could you update it to 80 please?" The next time it was along the lines of "Hi, can you update the member since date of my ____ (zync, blue, gold, etc) card to match the date on my other ____ card?" Just repeat something along those lines with every call until someone can finally do it.

Almost every rep I spoke with told me that they will no longer change your member since date unless they can confirm you were the primary account holder of a card with the old date and not an AU. Doing it this way, you are the primary account holder... ;)

Does this method still work? Got a new AMEX that I'm trying to backdate and have a couple potential people I can add as AUs to backdate to their date.

Muss08, what you are asking for is against current AMEX backdating policies. Current policy is that you are backdated to when you first held an AMEX. However, people have had luck getting backdated using the method you posted. Also, people have had luck getting AUs backdated to original card holder. Both are against policy, but it has been done. There is no definitive method for backdooring AMEX backdating policy that I am aware of. Just a matter of getting the right rep at the right time.
