My daughter has been an AU on my Palladium since she was nine. The CS rep was confident she was the only nine year old in the world with one. The engraved signature has hearts for the dots above the i's. Nothing like seeing cashiers faces when she uses it.

Added my daughter to Citi when she was in infant (less than a year old). They sent her card with no questions asked. I did it entirely online - can't remember if they asked for DOB.

...well the real question is, which of the card will report to all 3 cb? I know Amex will ask for SSN. The other will not. Not even DOB. So how do they report to somebody without knowing any PII? :dntknw:

My daughter has been on both of our Barclays since age 11, same with all Cap 1 including business cards and all Comenity cards. I just added her to my GECRB Walmart Discover and Paypal MC and she is now 12. In all she has about 13 open positive trade lines under her name as AU. good luck

One of the many things I've always loved about this " Credit Reporting " system we have is that a wise and patient parent can give a " gift " of three 750 plus scores to their 16 year old child.

  • SSN's are obtainable at a very early age
  • Names are given at an early age
  • Last names of children are typically the same as their parents
  • Credit Accounts are tied to name and SSN's, both obtainable at an early age
  • Creditors do not now, and have rarely ever, asked for proof of the age of the child
  • Most FICO scoring models now, and in the past, have credited AU's with full history of an AU account
  • Parents (mother for a daughter, father for a son) can call in to verify information to set up new accounts

What a gift! :clapping:

I added my (at the time) 1 year old son to my Cap 1, my Best Buy reward Zone and to my Discover card. Now a couple of years down the line he's receiving pre-approvals from Citibank, Discover, AMEX and so on.

Of course I shred them since he wouldn't be able to get one on his on at his age anyway. But I bet his credit score is over 725 easily.

I can ONLY imagine what it's going to be like when he hits 18 yrs old. I will counsel him day and night about keeping excellent credit and how much money he can save by having EXCELLENT credit. But at the moment all he wants to talk about is IRON MAN and Dinosaurs, LOL

He's only going to be an AU. I really think it's despicable when parents use their own children's SSN's to get credit and then screw it up for them. That happens all the time when they use their kids SSN to get the lights turned on or phones or able, etc.

This is good info. I was thinking about adding my 14yr to mine. Drives me nuts to get those phone calls "mom hurry and come pay before they close".

Hey Tanya, there's several cards out there that you can designate how much you allow your AU to charge on the card like AMEX. I'm sure there's others too. that way you don't have to worry that your daughter or another AU will go crazy at a sale and MAX out your card, LOL.

My 8 year old niece got hooked on computer games and downloading apps and songs from iTunes. In one months times my sister got a bill for over $800 bucks for game apps and had no idea what they were and of course disputed them. When she found out it was her DD and that she was cough, cough, liberating her card to buy them, she called up her CC and told them what happened and Paid the $800 dollars. Of course it wouldn't have done any good to have caps on her card since her DD wasn't an AU and it was her card. Just showing how people can go overboard without even realizing it.

Oh my word, that's a good point. Thanks for bringing that up. I never would of thought of that.

AmEx = 15

Arkansas National = 18

BofA = 12

Best Buy = 13

CapOne = 13

Citi = 7

Discover = 9

First Command = 16

GE Money = 18

Macy's = ?

NFCU = 12

Pulaski B&T = 18

I think the real answer is age 1 for all of the above! A vital question we did not ask: does one need to provide any form of proof of the AU's age? blink.gif

I'm just going by CB personal experiences. biggrin.gif

CapOne = 4

I just added both my DD and DS online. They're 4 and 6.

I had to enter their DOB.

I went ahead and added my daughter (8) and son (2) to my GECRB PayPal Mastercard and Walmart Discover just to see what would happen. It just asked for their names online and nothing else and a week later I received cards for each of them for each account. They never asked for DOB or SSN, and my son has a different last name than me, so how are they going to be able to find their credit reports to report them to?
