We've had this discussion before where people had their thongs all in a twist because somebody on food stamps had the nerve to buy more than Wonder Bread and off brand cheese to feed themselves. No matter what they buy, the money was still allotted to them and will still be spent. Get over it.

Remember that crazy thread where people got pissy, because some lady purchased a birthday cake for her kid using food stamps?

That's exactly the one I was thinking of.

buy organic salmon & the self-righteous complain you are wasting their tax dollars.... buy 100 cases of oodles or noodles & spaghettios & the same complain about your ill health, obesity, feeding your kids crap or whatever....

the folks who complain about things like this ALWAYS look for something to moan about....they complain about their wasted tax dollars as if they do everything they can to minimize the tax impact upon others....

Welfare moms, make sure you dont buy NIKEs or ADIDAS because thats a waste of your gifted funds...but make sure you dont buy $7 sneakers from Walmart because well ya know, they hate Walmart even more than they hate you moochers....

:):lol::rolleyes:

Yep to all this.

I was out of work for a long time in this economy. And yeah, single little no-kids me got some food stamps. Was I proud? No. But I was hungry. When I went back to work (15 hours a week), I kept getting them because, well, $900 a month doesn't pay rent, heat, a bus pass, AND buy food. It just doesn't no matter how you stretch it.

I used to be a lot more judgmental about what people bought until I had to live on what I was given. Try buying fresh veggies. I lived for a long time off of cheap, frozen foods because I could not afford to buy whole foods and fresh meats and vegetables. Organic food? If I wanted to go hungry the rest of the month!

I look at it this way: if they need help, they should have it. They paid (or will pay) taxes, just like me. And after having been a part of the system (and NEVER wanting to be back in it), I just don't feel I should judge who deserves the help and what they buy with their assistance. Is there abuse? Yes. But I would venture a guess it is less common than we are led to believe.

They should have been pissy that she was celebrating the kid's birthday at all. Mollycoddling at its finest.

But then it is OK if you sell your EBT benefits at 50% for cash to fund alchohol, marijuana, or pills? It happens and I have seen it. Especially those Klonopins we write out, those are like gold on the street.

Klonopins(sp) suck lol. I've always wondered how people on welfare could buy things like toilet paper, toothpaste and female necessities. I had a friend years ago who was on welfare, and the assistance she received didn't cover any of these things. It was only food/nontaxable items that she could purchase.

You are a little hard on folks. MOST people who are so down and out as to be on welfare, do not want to be there.

They lost me at the description of the graduate student studying poetry...that speaks to someone destined to be a slacker for life. Even Principal Strickland would have cut McFly some slack and instead gone off on poetry dude...

Now, now....there are jobs out there for people with a masters or even a PhD in poetry......

I'm sorry. I'm NOT a poet and I know it.... :sorry:

Exactly. I don't believe for one minute that the abuse is that common.

And just saying? I hope your situation has improved.

It has improved drastically, yes thank you. And I still stand by what I said there.

People on welfare buying good food? NONSENSE!

Better not be any steak in there either. People on welfare who buy steak are trashy. They should only ever buy pink slime hamburger made with lips and assh*les.

The linky wouldn't open for me but the jest I get is that they are buying organic food which can be spendy with food stamps?

Eh, long as they are spending their food stamps on food (not selling them)I don't care really what they buy.

We got food stamps when dh went to college back in 2000 and I was working full time, I admit I would buy chips, pop or some goodies for the kids and us, but I also stocked up on meat and canned foods.

Of course back then food was less expensive this day and age things have can up so much. I needed to get sugar (dd loves to good) for a small bag the store brand $4.99 really?
