thanks guys, i actually came here for a different topic tonight and saw this thread, but had applied and denied for the same reason like a week ago. I called the first number, didnt even ring once and a rep picked up, already knew who i was (weird, but anyways) verified my DOB. Told him what was going on, pulled my report, because i only have a JCP card with a limit of $650 and 2 small collections he was only able to approve $500 but I got the USAir. Sweet! (hey, its a start!)

i was on the phone for like literally, 45 secs.

Congratulations. You might want to ask for a CLI upon activation.

I was denied in about 5 minutes after an online app yesterday. Reason was "Recent Lates" which is funny because the last late I have was from 2002 (Student Loan). I called for recon and provided some additional information ... lady asked me about 6-7 questions and said she would sent the file to the manager for review ... would know the answer in 24-48 hours.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed and will let everyone know the outcome.

Update: Just received the welcome email.

"Congratulations. You've been approved for an Ameriprise World Elite™ MasterCard® credit card."

Now I guess I just need to call in to get my CL .. hope it's decent! Thanks to everyone for your help with this thread .. I don't think I would have called them for recon...

I received my rejection from Barclays today.

The reason listed was "too few accounts with sufficient satisfactory performance."

I am attempting to rebuild my credit after a 2003 CH7 BK.

Should I call for a recon?

What could it hurt? I'd do it.

Have you checked your reports? It could have hit one or more already.

Activate using the automated system first, then call the 408 number. I was able to get my limit increased by 3x with a soft pull and a short financial interview/review.

Was the soft pull TU or another CRA?

I don't know. I know it was not hard and I don't have the energy to fight through the CRA sites to check.

This is so exciting! I've been working with such a small CL for so long I PIF at least every other week to keep things flowing smoothly, but thanks to good advice here I'm gaining flexibility. I got Barclays denial last week even though my TU is clean and 710. Figured it must be due to high UT, which I already have down to 30%.

This thread had given me the courage to call for my first recon, but I'm wondering if I need to wait until my low balance reports next month to prove my lower UT. How does that strategy work?

Thanks!

I applied for the Barclays Virgin America card last week. I picked that card because Barclays is an exclusive TU puller.

Today I was notified that I was declined due to "Sufficient Open Lines of Credit." I only have two other cards (one of which is a $300 HSBC), as well as CJ.

Has anyone had luck getting Barclays to reconsider? And does anyone have a phone number for their credit analysts?

My TU score is in the high 600s, I only have two very small CAs reporting and two very old paid chargoffs. I don't want to have to apply at Town North and pay to have my TU unfrozen again. I really thought Barclays would give me something!

Many thanks.

if you wait for the balance to update barclays will have to do another hard inquiry to confirm.

I would call now and explain the reasons you want the card and that you recently paid down your balances.

good luck!

Nubie qt: Do credit card co's like to see UT high or low? They want you to use the card and have a high UT. But will they give you a CLI on a card almost maxed out or only on a card almost entirely paid off?

Anyone? Ferris?

You guys and girls rock! I called the first # and was answered on 0 rings. I was told I couldn't be offered more credit but they could split off some from my other Barclay's card which I agreed to so now I have two 1500 card with them.

You guys are the best! I had applied for a Priceline negotiator card and was denied for excessive inquiries. Just called the 408 number and was approved for $9500 for a $8795 balance transfer I am doing. Thanks CB!

I just called the first number about my USAir card. I have had a crappy $500 limit since I got the card 3 years ago. They lady reviewed the account and doubled the limit to $1000. Its about darned time.

Would I be pushing my luck by calling and asking for an increase on the ITunes today or should I wait a month or so?

I called today and spoke to a really nice woman named Twyla who asked me in depth questions about my INQs, UT, earnings, and overall credit history. I explained that I've been shopping around for a better APR since parting ways with Chase and I'm interested in more flexibility in general but specifically interested in buying a new computer. She said she saw a lot of potential in my clean payment history, but the fact that I went several years without any credit (2002-2006) combined with several INQs (3 including them) was a problem for them. She also seemed a little wary that I'm self-employed, but did encourage me to reapply when I had fewer INQs and a longer payment history. She also mentioned that they keep these applications and notations on file for 60-90 days.

It was an informative process, but I didn't think they'd be so tough on me. I guess I had my hopes up. Oh well!

Called and got $1k CLI after 3 years...About time!!!

Thanks for the thread :)

wow i applied lask for travelocity points card and got denied for the below issues .

High overall credit card utilization

Presence of collection inquiries

High number of recent inquiries

Called just now and talked to the rep. I told her that these balances have been paid in full. and I bought a call last year so the dealer put a lot of INQs. no collection as teh collection was wrong and not on my report anymore. she asked me a lot of quests and approved me for $500.

What is the best way to get CLI for Barcly?

I called asking if I should apply with a recent BK. The rep told me they will not approve until at least 6 months post bk and you must have a positive TL reporting.
