**Before I start, let me remind you that if you are opted out you will NOT get pre-approvals!**

I"m posting this randomly to anyone who is in this thread, since I think it would interest anyone looking for pre-approval links --

There's a thread about WFNNB-backed store cards you can search for here on CB which is important because WFNNB has a habit of offering pre-approved cards at some of their websites.

Once you make an account online at a given WFNNB store website, fill in your profile with your name and address and phone number that are on your credit report and add a credit card if you have one. Then go add something (perhaps expensive) to your cart and pretend like you're going to check out. If you're going to be pre-approved you'll either get a pop-up before the step with shipping options, or you'll see a small icon in the lower left hand of the browser window that says "you're pre-approved!" around the same step.

The ones that I got pre-approval offers from over the past year (some I got earlier/with worse CRs than others) are:

Victoria's Secret (first one, soon as I was an Amex AU - $350)

Buckle (they offered my DH a $500 card a when he only had a $100 BBRZ, a $500 CapOne and a couple AU lines)

Express (so did they, but half the amount of Buckle - $250)

Newport News ($500)

Spiegel ($500)

Brylane Home ($700)

Woman Within ($500)

OneStopPlus ($700)

American Signature Furniture ($1000)

I did not accept all of these, and my husband doesn't get preapproved for all of these. His file is thin but totally clean. Mine is long but has some defaulted student loans/lates (paid now).

None of these (that we accepted) got either of us a hard inquiry EXCEPT Newport News and Spiegel.

Hope this helps someone!

edit - WFNNB CLIs at 9 months -- my VS card gets heavy use and was auto CLI'd to $500 from $350 at 9 months. My NN card got some small use and didn't get auto CLI'd at 9 months so I hit the "request CLI" button on the website and though it said I'd get a reply by mail, I checked online later and had been upped to $700. YMMV. No hard inquiries for the CLIs.

Thanks for your post in regards to WFNNB. When I started developing my credit profile several years ago, I wanted an Express store card. Never app'd for one, but on the whim, I tried checking out tonight in a mock transaction (never really intended on buying anything), and received my pre-approval popup before final Checkout. Although I am way beyond opening up store cards to develop my credit profile, I guess it's just nostalgia. Coupled with testing whether or not it'll be a soft pull, I decided to accept their offer.

If you shop there, it's a good way to get deals and special sales. Many stores do that and give promo offers to their cardholders. It's also easy to get the cards, because they want you to buy from them.

If I have no credit at all (Im only 18 years old searching for my first card) which option should I choose on the Capitol One preapproval screen in regards to my credit? Great, average, or rebuilding?

rebuilding is probably the one.

Capital One $500. My first unsecured in over a decade. My first wife jacked my credit. Trying to rebuild.

Congrats! Everyone has to start somewhere.

Applied for Capital One Platinum Card and was approved for a $500 limit. This is the first personal credit card I have had in nine years. I am going to use this to rebuild my credit and not let my wife get her hands on it to charge it up. I have learned a lot about not using more than 50% of the available limit so I know I can't spend more than $250.00 on this limit.

I hate fingerhut - got the card a while ago (rebuilding) with a 250 limit. Last time i even used it was in jan for about 140, paid in full and they didn't report a zero balance for four months - i had to dispute the balance with cra to get it to zero again.

now my limit has been raised to 550, it's been a couple months like that so i thought if i could purchase something VERY SMALL (since i don't like them) that they would report the new limit at least.

here is where this is relevant to this topic:

i found something in clearance today for under $30 so i put it in the cart, went to check out and during checkout (was already signed in) in the part where they ask how you want to pay, i got message saying that i was pre-approved for a $600 cl - well that's confusing since i already had a credit account but under the 600.00 notice was one of those notes saying how i can opt out of pre screened offers. seems that if i didn't already have an account with them that i could have just picked up the 600.

i think they are using the same method as wfnnb with being logged in and them using your name and address to see if they have offers for you?

worth a try for anyone out there fixing their credit looking for a pre approved line.

worse yet, Credit one Bank is owned by the Sherman Financial Group

who also owns LVNV funding, and Resurgent Captial services......

there have been a few cases in the HIBS forum where Credit one Tacks on charges to a paid in full and closed account and then sells it to LVNV Funding.

I would avoid them at all costs. - cancel the card, and do so in writing. -

if you have never used it, there is no contract.

Hence "Re-builder card"

this card is still much better than the first premier card, seems there is some confusion of what a re-builder card is. Let me explain a little bit:

It's for those who have bad credit that cannot get approved anywhere, some find it hard to get a regular capital one card. Some cannot even get approved for secured cards. When people that have credit that bad (i've been there) want to start Re-building than they have to either get secured cards where they put down their own money or get one of these "re-builder" cards that do have high fees but grant just about anyone unsecured credit. They need the high fees because most people with bad credit will default on these cards and that is the cost of doing business with them when no one else will even glance your way. they report to the cb's and you start Re-building. the monthly or annual fees on these accounts is the cost of the service they provide that you wouldn't get any other way. If you don't like the cash advance rates, don't cash advance, it's not so hard. When you start getting good credit again, it served it's purpose and you are free to close it at any time. (as long as you make sure it's a zero balance.) some of these cards don't have grace periods so after it's a zero balance you should wait for another cycle because they will charge interest for anything used during the month even if it closes as zero. which is why allot of people get confused as to why they have a balance after closing at zero. with anything you have to read the small print and understand how things work.

Posting this link wasn't to try to sell this card - this is a preselector site thread and it was just to inform that there is another preselector site that we can use for maybe a soft or just out of curiosity. creditboards is a place where people who want to rebuild can go to get advise on things. It might not be the card for you, but there are people out there who need this card and it's cool that they now also offer a preselector, just to see, with no hard pull. It is good to understand fees associated with cards so it is good to post that info too. :)

I got approved for a Credit One Bank VISA with a CL of $300. I just read the fine print and there are all kind of crazy fees attached. If I never activate the card am I still responsible for paying the fees?

Do the preapprovals work if you are OPTED OUT??

BOA doesn't. I am not sure about the others.

I'm opted out. Just did the Cap1 one 3 days ago & was approved for unsecured with credit scores (USAA FAKOs) ranging 544-568.

Oh.... forgot to mention.... (this probably isn't news to many of you... heh heh) ....

I pulled the USAA just before applying.

Got the Cap1 Approval in the middle of the night. (should probably never do these things after a long day of work & sleep deprived!)

Then pulled a USAA the next morning.

Hard pulls on all 3 CRAs. (no surprise there)

In context - I only have one inquiry across all 3 in July for a mortgage starting point. One inquiry on Experian for Kohls in March (declined). No others for the past 2 years.

EX USAA FAKO was 551 before the pull, and stayed the same - no drop.

EQ was 568 - dropped to 555.

TU was 544 - dropped to 530.

The next day.... the TU one came back up to 544. I looked at the report and the inquiry was gone. What's with that?

I have a WF secured card that has been in good standing for about 22 months.

Lots of old (2007 and longer) baddies. I paid off my car 18 months ago (it had two 30 day lates in 2007). No other lates since 2007.

I needed another trade line or two so I did this one.

I got a $300 unsecured (whooopeee, huh?) ... but I'll just use it to probably pay one automatic bill a month and just keep paying it in full.

Posted

So just pulled my USAA for today.... TU went back to 530.

It was fun while it lasted. :)

Yeah, TU quite often has the issue where an INQ shows up, then drops, then shows up the next day, on new inquiries.

Used the HouseHold selector on a whim. I'm rebuilding my limited history (which before July had only one past account CO'd and turned into a paid judgement). Got approved. First non-secured card!

Hi

I see this list was last updated Sept 7th 2010.

I'm wondering if these listings still pull soft inquiries being they are a year old ?

Thanks

So after a extensive search on CB & Google, the below credit card sites are the only ones I could find that pull 'soft' inquiries to see if you qualify for their cards.

note: deleted original links - they're dead. please use the links below.

Bank of America no longer does Pre-qualification soft pulls, Best buy moved their prequalifications to in store only, and Citi doesnt do pulls anymore, they only have the option to enter the invitation ID if you received a preapproval in the mail from them.

I just checked Amex for preapproved offers since I got one in the mail last week. They wouldn't take my PO Box which is how the mailed offer came so I entered my physical addy. No offers. PO Boxes are sometimes a PITA.
