Sorry I was confusing. Card and Amex website show 2005 and they have for over a month. Recently updated balance information on my reports. Still showing 2011 open date.

Got you, I believe I read in this thread that it takes a couple of cycles for the credit reports to update, so you might want to check them again after the next closing date. Did Amex website update right away after calling for backdating?

I had an Amex back in the mid-80's but it's been closed for years. I can't remember if I closed it or if Amex did. I was young and dumb in those days and let my practice husband handle all the bills. I remember getting a few calls from Amex about late payments but just let my PH handle it. I now have a Costco Amex but I'm wondering if I could get it backdated to the the date of my original Amex. I'm a little concerned because if it was closed by Amex would that affect me adversely now?

I was approved for an Amex last month (Dec. 2011). When I received the card today I saw it had a "Member Since" year of 2012 which was what showed online as well. Should the year of "Member Since" be 2011 since I was approved in that month?

Posted

I didn't even think to check mine, but yea my Member Since says 2012 even though I was approved in December myself.

The website also says Member Since 2012

(no luck finding a family member to backdate me so far, but working on it)

Managed to get my personal Amex backdated, however the AU account just showed up on my CRs a couple of days ago and it has a 12/1/2011 opening date. Bummer, but I'm hoping this is because the basic account started off as a member since 2011 back in december and that it will update to early 2000 next month.

The process was fairly painless.

Yay!

Found an old Amex check from 1977 with my card number on it! It was closed in the 80's. What are the odds I can get backdated!

EtoA:

The check was for a Gold AF and I had a green card at least a year earlier.

i got my backdated cards in the mail, its been over a month now and the card has updated and is still showing the 11 open date.

That would be good enough for me. My credit is plenty good these days. I really like the idea of having the card say 1977!

I was approved for a Zync today and have an old charged off Green Card that I never paid for. I live in Texas :) Do you think its likely at all that I can get my account back dated? My account says member since 2012 now.

You won't know until you try.

Hi all,

My experience- I've had Green, Blue, and Gold in the past. I finally cancelled the last one, Gold in 2009. Opened a Zync in 12/11. Before I got the card, online account stated "Member since 1995". Got the Zync and it says "Member since 2011". The discrepancy hasn't caused a problem. Card started reporting at second statement with the 1995 date.

Got the SPG AMEX. It had "Member Since 12" on the front.

I called customer service to activate and remind them of my College Blue that I opened in 2001. They corrected me an said that I actually opened it in 2002 and that I would get a replacement card that read "Member since 02" on the front.

The College Blue was a Charge Off.

My parents have never held an AMEX, so the family backdate is a no-go. A buddy of mine has had one for about 20 years, but I think I'll just be happy with my honest 10 year backdate. If I open up two accounts, it will be as good as one 20 year old account for my AAOA.

The AAOA bump isn't going to be as significant as I was thinking. The card hasn't reported yet, but since I have 20+ tradelines and an AAOA of less than 48 months, the 10 year bump is only going to be good for a 3 month AAOA bump.

was wondering if i get the prepaid reloadable amex card and then later on get approved for one of their cards will they backdate me to when i got the prepaid card?

I've come across conflicting reports anout whether or not the AU backdating window of opportunity has closed. Does anyone know if this gravy train has left the station?

If not, is the following a viable option:

1. Parents open Blue Cash Preferred, to be backdated to AmEx TrueEarnings member since '96. 2. Parents add me as AU / auhorized user to BCP3. Get AU card to reflect parents' 96 date4. Use my BCP AU date to backdate my personal Platinum and TrueEarnings cards5. Enjoy a healthy AAOA boost

To my mind, I see two potential issues: a) this AU backdating has died. B) the BCP has a limit of additional cardholders that would prevent my parents from adding me.

Can anyone help shed some light on this?

Thanks for the help!

No. They're handled be two separate divisions of AmEx, and AmEx's membership idea is the first time you get an AmEx credit card, not a prepaid debit card.

would an Amex BCE work as your first Amex card? I have no Amex history and neither does anyone I'm close to so I need to atleast get an Amex card this year to backdate future cards to 2012.

thanks
