Reporting success story.

Had SPG since 2010, recently added myself as an AU to friends 1998 Zync account. Received 2011 AU card. Called and got AU card backdated. Then backdated my SPG to 1998. However, tried to get a 2010 Costco card dated 1998 was told by rep that Costco didn't exist in 1998 so they can't date the card that date but member since date is 1998. I wonder if its just this rep or they don't issue Costco cards with those dates.

Did he mean that the Costco card did not exist in 1998? The store did... Isn't the Zync card relatively new (i.e. after 1998)? Weird.

Yep, called another rep and got costco issued 1998 as well. Should i wait for credit reporting to correct itself or call reporting department and ask to correct the dates? Thanks.

It may take a couple of cycles to update no matter what you do.

Will this scenario work (or should I not waste my time):

A friend had a Corporate Amex back in 2001, closed in 2005 or so (it shows up in Amex's system under his social). If he were to apply for a personal card, would that be backdated to 2001? He has offered to add me as an AU, but if they won't backdate his there is no point in going trough all this trouble. Also would it matter which personal card (charge or credit) he applies for?

Thanks,

Darn it, I was hoping you would not say that

Maybe I will have him try it, everyone likes a guinea pig.

MAYBE if it were a corporation of one person, it might work.

So if his personal gets backdated, then the AU should be ok too correct (or is this where the old corporate accout may come in play)? Also would it matter which card he tries for?

Sometimes it takes a LOT of calling for the AU to D*

Doesn't really matter which personal card he goes for.

I'm not blacklisted, if that's what you mean.

I might get another AmEx in 10 years if my FICO takes a hit due to 40 year-old cards dropping off. ;)

You're not gearing up for a spree here in a couple weeks?

No, my new plan is to wait till at least August when my last Experian inquiry falls off.

Then, I can start with a clean slate of 0 inquiries across all CRAs, and compare hits as I add inquiries.

Yea I didn't know if they blacklisted you or not. Yea from what i've read you have many other great cards to use so I don't think you will miss the amex. The AAOA drop in 10 years might hurt a little, but hopefully not a lot or at all.

You could app for a Cap One card and compare all three at one time....

You laugh, but the CapOne 2% is one of the cards I'm considering. :P

In 10 years, I don't think it's going to matter. :D

I had my friend apply and as soon as he got the card he called back asking to have the member since date changed. After some going back and forth and being transferred to three different departments, they agreed to change the "Member Since" on the card (they were reluctant to do it because it was a corporate card), however they said his reports will not change and they will still reflect 2011.

Is it possible for them to change the year on the card (they said the new card will be here in 7-10 days), and not in their system? This was a couple of days ago and his Member Since on the AMEX website still reads 2011.

Thanks,

i got my backdated cards in the mail, its been over a month now and the card has updated and is still showing the 11 open date.

So your cards and credit reports are backdated, but the AMEX website is still showing 2011?
