The outcome for the police is less paperwork. It's still illegal to "stand your ground" against cops, so why would they care who else is getting shot?

Exactly why should this law not apply to police officers? I see no good reason why it shouldn't.

I am sure it doesn't. But why shouldn't it?

Really? Where's the "slap your forehead smiley" when ya need it.

Stand your ground law or not, I'd still rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6.

the cuts on the head means very little IMO. There was a scuffle and I expect Trayvon was capable of doing damage to this guy but it shows very little of how the fight began. You can very easily attack someone first and you end up with your back on the ground, heck you can even hurt yourself tackling someone to the ground. And even at worse case Trayvon did blindside him and started the fight, self defense should not be applicable after stalking, getting out the car, and chasing someone down.

It doesn't give a person the right to make a hamburger patty out their head, if that is what happened.

his skinhead looks pretty unhamburgerlike on the video released.

It is almost ready for pink slime to be added.

He has a couple of small lacerations and the blood is flowing freely, as head wounds usually do. Not even close to hamburger.

this.... and that, too.

I haven't seen that pic of Zimmerman's head until now, but I have stayed off the computer for a few days. I don't care if TM did HIT him or bash his head in. I still stand by the whole thing of, if some creep were following me and came up on me or near me, I would do what I needed to do. Zimmerman on the other hand, went looking for a fight. HE WAS NOT BACKING DOWN, regardless of what happened, which is exactly why he did NOT leave his gun in his truck when he got out.

As for the Corey chick, I have been reading bits and pieces and recently read a story about that 12 yo that she is having tried as an adult. I have some strong feelings on that one. But that's another thread.

Go start that thread, but wait until Friday.

HA! I can see you are familiar with that case. ;)

Back to this thread:

I love how he says on the 911 call that TM looked like a teen but then during questioning on the stand, he says he thought he was a few years younger.

Do you think that they will be able to bring up his past history of following suspects (the one who carried a TV out of a store and the other one who spit on him) into their line of questioning for this case? I know that it has to be "introduced" in order for it to be allowed, but I am wondering how this would or could affect the outcome.

where's the validation that this is really a pic of Zimmerman head? This was taken by his good friend Taffe...why didn't the police take photo's? How do we know that there were not self-inflicted after the event? Supposedly, he was rolling around on the grass, where are the grass stains on his head? What is that object on the right side of his ear? A gun? A cellphone? or Trayvon's limb? How tall is Taffee to be able to get the shot of the back of the head of Zimmerman if he was not sitting down?

Wasn't ABC involved in some scandal of fake photo's with the Casey Anthony case? It was later revealed that they paid Casey $200K for exclusive rights to photo's, some of them found to be fake? Are they paying Taffe?

Of course all this would be something the police would likely know. The photo was taken with a cell phone and is time stamped 3 minutes after the shooting. While these metadata things can be altered it would be very hard to do so without being discovered with a forensic analysis. And it couldn't be done in the timeframe. What we don't have is any pictures or notes taken by the paramedics prior to cleaning up Z's wounds. The cops will surely have that.

It will be interesting to see what evidence they have that supports 2nd deg. murder but proving it beyond a reasonable doubt when the defense can raise SYG will be a high bar.

Whether the legal case against Z. falls apart the fact that he killed an unarmed kid whom he stalked when advised he "didn't have to do that" is not something that should have occured and perhaps the laws should be changed.

As an aside, Taffe, on NG, stated that he knows who took the picture but it wasn't him. AFAIK the photographer has not been identified.

Also, all the stories from Z's friends and relatives aren't evidence and should be treated as anything other than an attempt to push Z's story.

Quite frankly Dershowitz needs to sit down. From what I have been reading, he has given some of the most ignorant opinions on this case that I have seen.

If you want to see more informed opinions and legal gobbledy-gook , look for stuff from attorneys who have practiced in Florida, since the Stand Your Ground Law took effect in Florida. Look at some of the local articles about the law. Look at articles about Corey and how she handles cases and prosecutes.

If something shady is going on with how Corey has behaved, I would expect to hear the uproar around here first. There are many, many people who would like to see her taken down a peg or two.

Local news has been all over this case and Corey.

I almost forgot... The people who keep shouting that Corey's actions are motivated by re-election are driving me crazy. None of them have even paid attention to the fact, that she is unopposed. I am not talking about people here. People in my email group have been going crazy with that theory. It's like they don't understand what running unopposed means.

It means she can be crazy for three+ more years without worrying, until the next election's campaigning gears up.

ETA: Zimmerman's attorney is well respected and known to be a pretty straight shooter. If something is shady, I am sure he will be on top of it.

Familiar enough to know that I am not bothered by a violent, murdering, animal killing, sexual abuser being charged as an adult.

Judge delays decision on Zimmerman contributions

http://edition.cnn.com/2012/04/27/justice/florida-zimmerman-money/?hpt=us_c2

George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer accused of wrongly killing Trayvon Martin, will not immediately have to turn over donations to his website, a Florida judge said Friday.

Zimmerman collected about $204,000 in donations through the website, but did not disclose the contributions during his bond hearing last week, according to Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara.

Assistant State Attorney Bernie de la Rionda asked Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. to increase Zimmerman's $150,000 bond. But the judge said he would delay ruling on the request, in part because he does not know if he has the authority to do so.

Lester said he is also concerned about revealing the names of donors.

"I'm not going to make a snap decision," Lester said.

Zimmerman's family testified last week at his bond hearing that they did not have the kind of resources that would have been necessary to meet the prosecution's suggested $1 million bond.

Zimmerman, 28, was released Monday on $150,000 bail, 10% of which his family put up to secure his release while he awaits trial on a second-degree murder charge in Martin's February 26 death.

Although Zimmerman spent some of the contributions on living expenses, about $150,000 remains, O'Mara said Friday. O'Mara said he has put the money into a trust he controls until a final decision is made about its use.

O'Mara said he learned about the money on Wednesday and he and Zimmerman were trying to shut down Zimmerman's website, Facebook page and Twitter account to avoid concerns about possible impersonators and other problems.

Zimmerman released from jail "He asked me what to do with his PayPal accounts, and I asked him what he was talking about," O'Mara told CNN's Anderson Cooper on Thursday. "He said those were the accounts that had the money from the website he had. And there was about ... $204,000 that had come in to date."

O'Mara had said earlier this month that he believed Zimmerman had no money.

Asked whether knowledge of the money might have made a difference to Lester, who presided at Zimmerman's bond hearing, O'Mara said, "It might have."

Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump said Zimmerman's failure to reveal that he had the money shows that he is being dishonest.

"If his testimony at the bond hearing is any indication of what is to come, then the lying has already begun," Crump said

How did Zimmerman spend $50,000+ in a few weeks on living expenses?

Is there a penalty for not revealing assets during a bond hearing?

I think it can be revoked.

If he actually lied, he could be charged with perjury.

Prosecutor Bernie De La Rionda made the request to raise bond, citing the defendant's change in circumstance.

"I'm not going to make a snap decision," Lester said. "I can't do it without the facts. I don't have the facts right now."

Lester said before making the decision to change the bond, he would first need to know who created the account, who administered it, when the payments were made and if Zimmerman had direct access to it.

Without those details, he said, he had no authority to raise or revoke bail.

The site went live April 10, and it solicited funds to help Zimmerman with his legal fees. It was taken down earlier this week.

O'Mara claimed that at the time of the hearing Zimmerman had told him he was broke, but explained to CNN's Anderson Cooper that he found out about the money when trying to shut down "his full internet presence because of some impersonators and other problems with Twitter and Facebook."

Many on-air commentators have chimed in on the new development in an ever-twisting case, questioning whether Zimmerman family members perjured themselves when they testified about the family's lack of funds.

The question of perjury implies that the very people entrusted with ensuring Zimmerman follows his bond restrictions may not be worthy of the court's trust.

"I know a lot of judges who would remand the guy back into custody immediately," said Mark Geragos, a criminal defense attorney, in an interview with CNN. "And I'll tell you why - because one of the things is that they want to make sure somebody's not going to flee and the bond secures."

"I have created a PayPal account solely linked on this website as I would like to provide an avenue to thank my supporters personally and ensure that any funds provided are used only for living expenses and legal defense, in lieu of my forced inability to maintain employment. I will also personally, maintain accountability of all funds received," the site read.

You know, I'm curious to know how this happened considering I see people complaining left and right about PP shutting down accts when they are all of a sudden rapidly receiving large sums of money. It happens all the time when someone sets something up for a charitable reason. :dntknw:
