Since they just released a new version I'll plug my favorite personal finance manager: http://moneydance.com

Works fully offline (with optional online features), privacy focused, cross platform (Windows/Mac/Linux), and if you so desire you can get pretty damned sophisticated with it.  It implements double entry bookkeeping, hidden under the guise of "categories", but it's there and easy to leverage for people with accounting mindsets.

The only ding, people who view smartphones as their "computers" won't like it.  There is a mobile app but it is limited, essentially good for "on the go" transaction entry, like you want to enter that Starbucks transaction without having to think about saving the receipt until you get home.  Works fine for me, I'm a computer man, but the younger crowd that lives and dies on their cell phones will be discouraged, the mobile app is useless without the computer version, and you're meant to do the bulk of your financial management on a computer.

I would be curious if anyone is still listening to this thread what their recommendation would be for people who are less financially sophisticated and/or live and die on their phones.  A basic budget and transaction application, Mint seems to be highly recommended, but I have no firsthand experience with it.  Trying to think of ideas for people who need to manage their money better but will never commit to something as involved as Moneydance or similar PFMs.
