Thanks MM for relaying this info and being your own guinea pig....:good:

I'll post here my results.....[/size]

Quick question though, did you just call the number on the back of the card(s) OR the one from their website for each card???

You're welcome. It was a fun experiment, and yielded $18,050 in new credit across 5 accounts... not too shabby!

I did just call the number on the cards. Or Sam's might have been a number I had to dig up on their site, but the rest its all just the normal CS number.

I love this 7k limit at Wal-Mart....you can buy a ****load of crap with that!!! I have a Paypal MC that has heavy use...thinking about calling!! Just dont want a hard pull!!

I didn't get a hard for ANY of my requests.

Since the Wal-Mart card and Sam's are interchangable, I like to think of it as $17,000 in Walmart buying power. You know how many Nerf bullets I can buy with that???

This was a no-go for dh. He tried for 5000 on Walmart, and when told no he asked if they could give him any increase at all. They told him that they could not raise him ANY higher, based on info found on his credit file.

Hmm... Only baddies that remain on my report are two large personal loan chargeoffs from 2007, paid/settled in 2009. Everything else is positive, and I have a TON of new accounts, but they're slowly seasoning.

Did they ask you before the hard pull?

They didn't tell me that it was going to be a hard pull. They asked the same questions and put me on hold for almost 10 minutes. By then I knew it was going to be a denial. He told me that I was denied and that I should receive a letter stating why. The next day I run my reports for B* and I got a new inq. Maybe it's because I asked for 5k, idk.

Hmm, they're supposed to ask your permission before a hard pull. I got a few softs out of the deal, but no hards. Are you sure you spoke with underwriting? The frontline reps. will ask you the same questions, but they're just typing your responses into the same system you'd be using via the automated route. Each time I also got put on hold while the rep "reviewed" my credit, but each time they came back with a yes. I'm not so sure the amount matters... I got Walmart from $2800 to $7k and the boldest of my requests was Sam's from $6100 to $10k.

This could very well be YMMV though, as I don't know ultimately what their criteria are for a yes vs. a no. They might have seen something else they didn't like??

My new theory with GECRB is to call and talk with underwriting.

So far, doing this, I've managed to get more than one increase in a short period of time (both Lowe's and Sam's Club) and have been able to ask for larger limits than I think the automated 4-month game would have allowed.

Just to test further, I called on the Sam's Club card today. It was increased to a $6100 limit just 10-14 days ago. Today, I called and asked for $10k... and approved!

This has worked on Lowe's, Sam's, Gap Visa, Amazon so far.

Chevron card has always done micro CLI's with the automated system compared to some of these others, so I think I might make that my next test case.

But the point is that these calls have seemingly fast-tracked my limits vs. the four month game. YMMV, but if you don't mind schmoozing with a rep. on the phone, you might get much better results. Make sure you ask for underwriting.

Thanks for sharing your method. I called underwriter's today and got my walmart discover increased from $2500 to $4600. Then I thought maybe I should try my lowes card too. I called back and asked If I could get and increase on my account and bam I got my request approved. $6100 I did not get any hard pulls just softpull. Thanks for sharing....:yahoo:

Thanks for the inspiration! Because of this, I've been able to unstick some STUCK TL's. And not only that, but got some WHOPPER CLI's ... :swoon: Every time I'd try the automated system --->> DENIED. I don't mind talking with the UW at all.

:)

I don't mind talking with them either... the results are greater and seem to defy all the traditional rules at GECRB.

I will try this on my Amazon card as it appears to be stuck and has received only one CLI since opening 12/2010.

Anyone have experience and luck trying with a new account? My Wal-Mart Discover approval earlier this week was a snooze @ $2200.

Not sure how new you consider my account? It is a Lowes card opened around May 1st. Called them today and went from $8400 to $12k.

Has anyone tried with a care credit account? Thks.

Yes, it's been reported to be a hard pull tho.

...and just bumped Walmart to $7k. I think I'm going to quit while I'm ahead. Definitely proved this method, though.

Damn that's higher than my WM Discover. And my WM store is @ 4.5K after 2 1/2 years.

Sorry :offtopic:

Bad Dept King, do have BOTH a Wal-Mart Discover AND a regular Wal-Mart charge card?

I have a Wal-Mart card but at the time of app didn't qualify for the Discover. since then my Fico rose up about 50 points and I didn't want to wait for Wal-mart ot change me over to the discover card.

I called and the CSR told me I could app again and if i qualified that I would have a Discover wal-mart PLUS my regu WM charge card.

I apped and was declined becasue I "already had a Wal-mart account" so the CSR didn't know what he was talking about.

Was wondering how you were able to get a WM store card PLUS a WM Discover card. thanks,

I was told the same thing about the Discover card, but I never put in a second app. Curious to hear the answer to this as well.

Similar situation happened to me with my chevron card.. I called customer service and asked if I could upgrade to a chevron visa, she said I would have to apply for the visa and if approved I would have a chevron visa and a regular chevron card. So, now I have a regular chevron card and a chevron visa.

SO all this talk I had to try my GE cards. I don't think there were any hard pulls , I hope not! Dillards 4400>5000 600 increase automated system. Lowes 10k limit now DENIED any increase, I have been stuck at 10k for 2 years I think. Paypal MC, heavy usage pay in full mostly, 3500 limit DENIED ( I was surprised to be denied on this one). Walmart 1000 > 2000 an increase of 1000...I was surprised to get that one, everytime in the past it has always been a 200 increase. I have a SAMS Card but can't find it anywhere, so I don't know the account number to call in that one. All were automated system except PAYPAL MC..talked to a customer service rep but still got nothing! Oh well if no hard pulls all is good.

Um, did you miss the point of this thread? You are supposed to talk to an underwriter to get good CLIs. Another thread, by Kayvebear, had the number to call an U/W directly, w/o having to go through the auto/CSR first. Give it a shot. I'll bet you'll be much more pleasantly surprised.

Well I have high utilization right now and my old navy card is only a 1 month old so I won't be trying this quite yet. I'll see what my 4 month CLI brings and how my utilization is at that point, and if all is good I'll give a call. I'm hoping to go from $200 to $1,000

Has anyone tried with a care credit account? Thks.

Yes... they took my CareCredit from $5k to $10,900 -- for some reason the CareCredit CLIs are ALWAYS a hard pull. This is the only GECRB account that's known to do that for some reason, but it was worth it.

I may have hit a wall with this -- or they're onto the game.

I tried to bump my Lowe's yesterday from $10k to $12.5k and was denied. And today I tried to do my new Dillard's Amex card and they denied that as well. So its lay-low time on this gig for awhile.

Something was nagging me to try one last time. Different underwriter, different result: tried on Lowe's today and this time they approved the $12.5k request. Also tried one more time on the Dillard's Amex, and got it bumped to $3k from $700. I could have been more aggressive but figured they've done me quite well the past few weeks. $3k puts the card in line with all my other bank cards, and I can try again in 5-6 months.

At this point, I have no desire to ask GECRB for anything else. I'm pretty happy with the results from this round.

What about that poor, sad Old Navy card sitting there in your signature. I'm sure it would like to feel some GECRB love...?
