I am a Navy Vet and unfortunately, I never joined NFCU while in. I am discharged over 17 years and according to the rules online, I do not qualify for membership. How the heck is everyone here qualifying for cu? I am befuddled. I have searched through the threads but I am slow or something.

If you are a vet then you qualify. Call them and explain the situation and i'm sure they will sign you up. They should be able to look up your service record with your social. I got in through my father who is a vet.

I'm going to assume that since my dad is no longer living I can't use him? Otherwise I have no one else... wish I would've known about NFCU over 10yrs ago before he passed. (He passed in 2001)

I am going to see if they reject me or hassle me first. I just heard from some of my old buddies that they are in and would not have a problem adding me. Therefore, I have an in.

I got in through my Grandfather who passed in 1984...

The only way that you would be eligible on your own re: military service is if you are Active Duty, Retired receiving a pension from DFAS or have an immediate family member (sibling, parent, grandparent, spouse, child) who is one of the above.

If one of your friends is a member, the ONLY way they could sponsor you is if you are living in the same household and can prove that association. They cannot just sponsor you.

Remember their " eligibility wizard " is much less complete than the choices under " Join Now ". One military veteran of 17 years gave up when reading the wizard, then he found the Join Now options and joined very easily.

AS is our NFCU insider.

Many people have been able to join NFCU, then had their accounts closed on manual review, due to not really being eligible.

Does a roommate qualify as a household member?

I believe there has to be some sort of economic entwinement with roomie to qualify as a "household member"

On manual review, utility bills demonstrating liability for expenses would be an example.

"Family Members—including grandparents, parents, spouses, siblings, grandchildren, children (including adopted and stepchildren) and household members"

The above information is 100% accurate. :-)

I had some family friends living with me for about 7 months who were already members of NFCU.

Once their mail started coming to my home (I think they did some type of change of address with Navy) I called in to join and was accepted. They did have me send in a copy of my DL (which had the same address that was on their account since they did a change of address), a copy of my SS card, and a utility bill.

Once they verified everything, I was good to go.

So, yes you can join as a roommate, but you must make sure you have everything they need in regards to verification.

Good luck!

Any NAVY CU members need a roomate?

I got a different take on this my BIL, is getting sent to a military base by his employer. I dont know what it is going to take to get his a&& to a navy CU branch but I am going to find out. So if he joins, then his sister can join right?

I'd like to see the look on his face when the 16k credit card get approved.

Navy isn't all it's cracked up to be. I'm in and passed a security review and seriously don't understand what the hype is. There are other credit unions that are just as good and are easier to get into.

Great customer service, BK friendly, and large CL's. That's what the hype is about.

I did get approved for a card on my acceptance to NFCU

Congratulations! Based on your creditworthiness, you have been approved for a cashRewards Visa credit card. Your new credit line will be $25,000.00. Your APR will be prime plus 6.4%. You should receive your new card(s) in 7-10 normal mail delivery days.

But another credit unions would also easily give me that. Such as PSECU

If you have elite credit NFCU is meh and if you have sucky credit or stuck in "toy card hell" it's EPIC.

Congrats, that's awesome! But PSECU cc MAX is 20K. NFCU MAX is 50K, and can go to 80K on Flagship...

80K on Navy visa. If there's another CU that will grant me a limit equal or larger (willing to provide docs), let me know ;)

The max on this particular place is $50k.

Nice-lookin card, but nowhere NEAR as good as Navy, IMHO.
