Does anyone have the number to this part of the irs. I am super busy at work and I have been kept on hold for over 30 minutes and I end up having to get off the phone bc work call comes in. There is an IRS number and then a number for this department. Does anyone have that #

Really bummed. I just heard back that my 3 withdrawal requests were denied because they think I owe from 2011. I filed an amended return 2 months ago for that year and should be getting a refund but they haven't processed it yet. :( Going to try calling the Taxpayer Advocate tomorrow AM since they are closed for the day.

Woohooo!!!! Finally got through to the lady who denied my withdrawal. She agreed that if I paid the amount they currently think I owe she will withdraw the liens. So, I overnighted her a cashiers check and she'll have it tomorrow. Yay!!

Kind of annoying to have to pay them amost $2k when in reality they'll owe me about $6k once the amended return is processed but...they'll just refund that too and I'd rather not wait for the amended return to process and then have to go through this all over again.

Thanks! I received 2 out of 3 of the 10916 A (Withdrawal of Filed Notice of Federal Tax Lien After Release) last Thursday. I was thinking the 3rd would come Friday or Saturday but hasn't so I guess I'll call her tomorrow. One of the two I got is the most recent and on all 3 of the CRAs. I've faxed off letters to TU and EX on Friday. Have a contact number for someone from EQ who was out on Friday so waiting until tomorrow to call her.

Can't wait to see the impact to my scores! Once these are gone EX will have no liens and EQ and TU will each have only the 3 really old State liens which will fall off between 2 and 10 months from now.

I finally got my IRS direct debit plan setup! I sent in the paperwork back in Feb, along with a check. They immediately cashed the check so I know they received my application. I am JUST now getting a response back that they accepted my plan and the payments start in JUNE. When I sent it in, I was hoping to get them started in March and have it all removed by June. I'm sure tax season slowed them down too. Sigh. Oh well, still time enough to get in 3 debits and have it gone by the Fall. I'm just surprised it took so long to get started.

Congrats!!

The IRS moves at a glacial pace...except when it comes to cashing checks. :)

If it makes you feel any better, I filed an audit reconsideration back at the end of December and haven't heard a peep about it. When I called to inquire a few weeks ago it hadn't even been entered in the system yet. They said it could take 9 months!

OK, 2 of the 3 liens are now off of my CRs!!

TU:

  • One lien removed from 5/2011 (2 years old)
  • Prior score (FICO): 686
  • New score (FICO): 703

EX:

  • One lien removed from 5/2011 (2 years old)
  • Prior score (USAA FAKO): 771
  • New score (USAA FAKO): 779

EQ:

  • 2 liens removed: 1 from 5/2011 (2 years old) and one from 2005 (8 years old)
  • Prior score (FICO): 717
  • New score (FICO): 720 <--- THIS surprised me. Thought I would get a bigger bump. There are still 3 really old state liens on my report though. Guess that's holding the score down.

BTW:

For EX and TU I faxed in the withdrawal notice with a letter and proof of identity on Thursday and they were off as of this morning, less than a week later.

For EQ, I faxed to a specific person in executive resolutions this morning and in 6 hours it was off my reports. :yahoo:

Need a little bit of help

SO I was approved but I am nervous. The box was checked and it states I am approved and form 10916 is being sent out to local office and me. However they sent me the Collection Appeal Request and the collection Appeal rights docs.

Those docs seem like they are sent out to people who are denied. Did the person working my file make an error or do they send these documents to everyone?

If they do send them to everyone what is the next step for me to get these off my credit report?

I would wait to see if you get it before taking any other action; it is difficult to tell if they checked the box in error, included the appeal paperwork in error, or if they did mistakenly issue a withdrawal. Wait to see if you get the form before calling them.

I called the IRS. No sense in not knowing and I was approved. She told me they started putting those in all the letters now. Its crazy how much of a mess the irs is. They have 3 liens on me but only one is on credit. Which I didnt tell them. I just made sure the numbers matched up on the one that is reporting.

Congrats Bookersnook! I recommend faxing in your 10916 to the CRAs where the lien appears. They came off super quick for me. I also included a photocopy of my DL and recent utility bill as proof of identity. On the fax cover make sure to include your credit file number, DOB, last 4, county it was filed in, docket #.

BTW: The IRS does not report to the CRAs. That information is Public Record. The CRAs have their own mysterious and inaccurate way of collecting PR. Not surprising that some of your liens don't appear. I had 6 liens, only one of them was on all three. Of the others, 2 were on only one CR and the 3 state tax liens are on only TU and EQ.

If you already filled out form #12277 it should take 3 or 4 weeks to receive form #10916 from the IRS.

For me it actually was more like 6 weeks. They denied me at first, had to negotiate with them and then took another 2 weeks after that to get the forms. And then I only got two of three bc they for some reason sent one to my ex (who has done NOTHING to help resolve this and who they don't even have a current address for bc he hasn't filed his taxes in 3 years). So, one of them actually took ANOTHER 2 weeks for me to get. YMMV.

BTW: Make sure you send it to the right office for where you live. See link I posted earlier in the thread.

I was able to have 2 Federal liens removed. After all of the hoopla and excitement, my EQ score did not budge at all.

One was 12K and the other 6K... prior to this they were showing as released.

Either way, I am still thankful to have them off my report.
