I think we need to find out what McQueary actually said to Paterno. I've heard everything being said in that meeting from graphic details to they were "horsing around" in the shower.

 

That said, no "heir" to a coaching gig as prestigious as Penn State just walks away at the peak of their career as Sandusky did in '99. Something was up and I think JoePa knew much more than he's leading on. I'd say 90% of the Penn State coaching staff and football team past and present are in denial right now that this could actually happen. Watch the interviews...I think Paterno is still in denial, though he's starting to see the light just a bit.

JoePa and every single person who knew about these atrocities and did NOTHING in order to preserve the reputation of the Penn State football program needs to be fired & prosecuted. Instead he "told the AD" and did nothing else - as a result, who knows how many more boys were victimized by that sick freak? I'm disgusted.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Penn State trustees fired football coach Joe Paterno and university president Graham Spanier amid the growing furor over how the school handled sex abuse allegations against an assistant coach.

 

The massive shakeup Wednesday night came hours after Paterno announced that he planned to retire at the end of his 46th season.

 

But the outcry following the arrest of former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky on molestation charges proved too much for the board to ignore.

 

One key question has been why Paterno and other top school officials didn't go to police in 2002 after being told a graduate assistant saw Sandusky assaulting a boy in a school shower.

 

Paterno says he should have done more. Spanier has said he was not told the details of the attack.

 

Sandusky has denied the charges.

 

Rodney Erickson will serve as interim school president, and defensive coordinator Tom Bradley as interim coach.

I'm sickened by everyone involved who knew, was told, or saw what was going on and didn't contact law enforcement. They opted instead to "tell their boss" and try to pass the buck, and more kids (I'm sure) were victimized because of their cowardice.

His obligation under the law was legally satisfied but he did share the same responsibility to inform police - and the same can be said about any other witness. They failed these children: morally and ethically. I would fire the entire staff; the state of Pennsylvania will pay a hefty price to settle the lawsuits when they are filed - and there will be tons of them.

 

It will be interesting to see if the Feds view their actions as legally sufficient.

According to the article that I posted it was reported to the police(by the mother),but for whatever reason the police/DA decided not to prosecute the case. I'm very torn as a part of me (after reading the aboved article)feels like they are being the scape goat for the police not pressing charges at the time of the 1998 or 2002 complaints. Tho I can certainly see why as we don't know what was all said to the police at the time of the 1998/2002 complaints as the article noted the police officer in charge at the time isn't talking. The article also notes that the DA that handled the case conviently went missing in 2005 and is considered legally dead.. but has never been found.

 

Though I will admit I would have at least followed up to see what was going on with the case.

 

So that begs the question anyone that reports child abuse to their superiors should also report it to police? Without waiting to see what their superiors say or police if they were indeed contacted?

Understand that Joepa was Penn State, the football program was Penn State..

If Joe Paterno would of reported it to the police I guarantee that something would of been done, and none of this would be happening now. But he didnt. News reports that just last week Sandusky was on campus... I remember when the DA went missing, but I dont believe that it has anything to do with this...

 

I got sick to my stomach when I read the inditement..

 

ETA: I cant imagine that there was anyone willing to bring down, JoePa and Penn State football. but if all this was brought to light when it happened, JoePa probably would of still had a job and it would of all but been forgotten.

Yep. Same prosecutor's computer was found in a river with the hard drive damaged. Nobody knows what happened to him.

 

Same question about McQueary. He's just as disgusting as everybody else involved in this, if not more. The grand jury report states that he SAW Sandusky raping a kid of about 10. Instead of him going in and stopping what was happening, he went to his office to call his daddy to see what he should do. WTF! The moral failings in all of these people is astounding.

these students all up in arms?? what a joke. The guy did not report a possible felony not to mention the moral obligation to protect a child from a predator. Clearly Paterno and the leaders of PSU were just trying to cover it up. I hope the feds investigate the possible conspiracy.

 

 

the grad student (former) should also be investigated but keep in mind that being a grad assistant basically means you are an indentured servant. I wonder if he was told to not go to the authorities lest he lose his assistantship.

i think its ridiculous how much attention is being put on Paterno. I was talking to some people at work and they actually thought that he was the one who did the crime from how they heard the media spin it.

He did not witness the crime nor do we know what the witness communicated to Paterno. Plus he reported it to a superior that the proper authority to investigate the claims.
