Until recently my lead-footed older son was on my auto insurance policy (mistake #2). We also share the same first names (mistake #1). Metropolitan bungled their claims database and attributed 3 of my son’s comprehensive claims to my driving record. When I recently added my 16 yr-old to my policy, Met decided to do a review. Based on >my poor driving< and >my claims< they were going to put the family in the state’s high risk driving reinsurance facility!?!? Note: no one now on the policy has ANY claims, insurance points, or DMV violations.

Met also reported their commingled claims to CLUE. (I have filed a FCRA dispute with Choicepoint – that’s another post).

Met sent me post-dated notice of Consent to Rate, increasing 6 month premium $3,400. I spent the better part of 2 days making calls trying to get my driving history with Met corrected, and then re-rated. Was told point-blank “the underwriters do not want you to renew, so they jacked the premiums.” 15-year history with them had no effect on their decision. When I could not get them to agree to contact CLUE and correct my files, I filed a complaint with the state Insurance Commissioner.

My ire is fueled by the choices they leave me: competitors pull CLUE to offer a quote, and seeing the 3 claims, rate me high. Only Met can fix the CLUE. They haven’t. Or, I can suck up $3,400 rate increase and stay with “Snoopy.” Either way rates are too high. And I made sure I pushed that point in each conversation and in several faxes.

BUT THEN:

At 1:45 a.m. the next day someone busted a window out of my Blazer, parked right in front of my house. Now, Georgiaboy may think I’m paranoid, but who else would pick my primary vehicle and cause me to need to file a comp. claim, when I just spent 2 days arguing that my record was clean? Since I was the one to park it on the street, I’m sure they will attribute the claim pay-out to my driving.

Experian may kill your turtle, but Met will attack your vehicle.

I'm so sorry, but I am LMAO!!! You got put in Snoopy's doghouse?

Is your son a 2nd or Jr?? Clue usually shows the DOB of the filer. I take it Met did not include that in their CLUE file. Apparently they do not know how to conduct their business!!! In NC, that ceded business is big bucks - I know G makes money on it. If you don't sign the consent to rate, they strip your full coverage.

Did you send a copy of your complaint to the commissioner to Met also?

Suggestion, raise all your deductibles to $1,000 and don't file any small claims on your auto policy. With today's environment, that is what I am doing. It's the little ones that'll kill ya. I thought it over, and decided that self-insuring a little was the way to go at this time. They are all losing money on their insurance business - always have. Now that they are not making money on their investments, it is time to watch out!

CLUE should note your file in dispute, BTW, so you may be able to get other coverage. Check your CLUE report - you can get it at the choicepoint website. Maybe you can sue them all and get free insurance??????

My son and I have different middle names, so no Jr/Sr., etc. The CLUE showed mixed or missing middle initials, addresses, birth dates, SSN, DL Number, and strangely reported a different Ins. Company name.

I ordered the CLUE for myself after Progressive gave me a quote $2,200 over current Met, due to CLUE. I wanted to see what was there.

I did a telephone dispute with Choicepoint, but after speaking with the rep, who seemed to not want to dispute everything, I followed thru with CRRR dispute.

I got a call Saturday from Met saying they had the claims straighted out internally, and would re-rate me. Said they would re-file with CLUE within 30 days. When I told them that was too slow due to the 10 day Consent to Rate, they told me to ignore and review new renewal which should come later in the week.

We'll see. I may have to do the self-ins. thing as well. I'll probably seek quotes with others this week (although I don't want the hard inquiries. G pulled my TU. Progressive pulled Experian, but it is marked soft).

Did you tell the G rep not to pull? Dispute it - they are very accomodating and will probably remove it.

Cross your fingers that Met gets your stuff straight, and gives you back your old rate. Then you can shop without pressure.

Did you ask them about Guido??

I did an on-line quote request with G. Not sure whom I might speak with to remove the TU pull.

My younger son has a customized pickup (one that is "height-challenged)." He has a colorful sticker on the back window promoting the person who did his custom work.

So on my black plastic bag rain cover (where my window used to be  ) I've added a BODYWORK BY GUIDO, c/o Metropolitan Property and Casualty Insurance.

Hmm, I thought the online quote system had a pop up where you authorize credit inquiry. You didn't get one? What state?

Breeze, I did several quotes in one day with various companies. I can't recall if G had me agree to the pull or not. My quotes are for NC.

The site worked very well and the quote came almost immediately. It even had the name of an organization I'm a member of ( in a drop down list) and said it allowed a discount.

At least it didn't pull from Experian.

Oh, ok. I know we were told G always pre-notifies, even in states where it is not required, and that there is a popup online where people can say yes or no.

lol re Met and your Blazer! They probably did do that...

I've heard that people need to get their CLUE reports before getting new auto/homeowner's insurance.

I know someone who cancelled their telephone inside wiring maintenance insurance after 10 years, and two months later their wires were clipped.

Makes you go hmmmmm...

Update:

Insurance Commissioner's office accepted complaint and assigned investigator.

Met adjuster not available during scheduled office hours and caused delay in approving parts order. However, next day agreed to pay for real Chevy parts and new glass, rather than junk yard glass as originally proposed.

Parts still not in, it's raining buckets outside, BUT that gives me excuse to stay home today and watch CNN and NCAA bball.

 I hope you get your problems fixed before the REAL rainy season begins.

In MOST States, as far as know, when here areerrors on your Clue Report, it is due to errors on your MVR.

In my opinion, you should double check your MVR and make sure the mistakes are corrected THERE first, before attributing the errors to Clue or Snoopy.

Thanks Why Chat.

All 4 of us on the policy have perfectly clean DMV records. I obtained a copy of my report just to be sure there were no errors. To its credit, the State of NC kept a perfect file on me, unlike Met.

I spoke with a Met underwriter on 3/14, who agreed they had made rating errors, and who said they would offer renewal at the same rates I used to pay. Wait for Mon 3/17 to have confirming notice mailed.

I received a notice dated 3/14 saying "2 insurance points removed", and quoting me premium $3,200 higher than existing policy #@&&%#@,

When I called CSR, I asked her if this was how Met confirmed agreement to renew at same rates as before. She spoke with the secret underwriters, and returned to our call to tell me to ignore the mail, and that a new quote would arrive.

Next day another renewal letter arrived, this one dated 3/17, quoting rate $3250 higher than current rate.

I suppose I'll have to call again to see if they know just what they are doing, and whether they are backing out of our verbal 3/14 agreement.

I received a multi-page document from Choicepoint, containing a recent C.L.U.E. report. Each of my three claims correctly were marked "Above claim has been disputed and is being rechecked."

I am not sure if I received this report as a result of my recent dispute, or due to an earlier request.

When my insurer first informed me that they had used info from Choicepoint to make a rating decision, I fired off a CRRR letter to Choicepoint requesting my consumer report per the FCRA. The next day I found that the ChoiceTrust web site could be used to request a report if an insurer recently obtained one on my history. I requested my free report via the web.

Choicepoint ignored my CRRR letter for seven days before accepting. I could not wait that long, so I purchased one from ChoiceTrust. That report was generated within minutes via the web (and is available for 30 days). Later that week I received a letter from Chociepoint, containing a copy of my DMV record.

Since the DMV record was perfect, I could not see how the Met could use it for an adverse rating decision. And, as I've written earlier, I did file a dispute with Choicepoint about the inaccuracies in my CLUE.

In the mail this week I received the above report relecting my disputes. I was given a date to expect a new report (30 days).

CLUE is not a static report, although the one you receive online looks like it is. It is a real-time search of a database of claims. Your insurer did not include enough information (date of birth would do it) to distinguish your son's claim from yours. Or, they paid his claim from your policy - that's always a possibility.

 I am a little confused, you say all "4" have clear driving records, but you say your eldest son is "leadfoot"!! Is "leadfoot" past 19? Does he have his own car and insurance? Are you comparing your rates from "pre-16 year old driver"?

Yes, leadfoot is now on his own policy, has his own vehicle, and has lived apart from our household for a year.

The other 4 of us include H, W, son (>3 yrs clean driving) and D licensed last November.

Policy for all 5 including leadfoot was $2,000 per 6 mo term. Older son removed and placed on his own policy. Met uses their bungled records and wants to price the 4 of us (clean records) at $3,400 INCREASE per 6 mos (yes, premium of $5,400) plus place us in State Reinsurance Pool.

Met now accepts that it screwed up files, and MAYBE is working to clean-up. CLUE is still wrong, so when I get rates from competitors, they quote me high.

I accept older son's 3 claims should influency HIS rates, and believe me, his new policy reflects his history.

But those of us remaining are so clean we squeak, and somehow Met wants me to swallow jacked premium. (...and sends Guido over to rub my face in it).

I mentioned that 'G' pulled my TU when I obtained a quote.

Well my older son showed me his PrivacyGuard report today. G pulled his TU a total of THREE HARDS --

(1) on the day of his quote,

(2) on the following day when he purchased, and

(3) four days later for unknown reason???

Do you know some dept. I can call to request G remove at least 2 of these hard inquiries?

And, since they are using hard inquiries I don't understand why there is no credit account showing?

Actually, since the policy is prepaid there should be no credit account, so what I don't follow is the hard inquiries?

It is not a "hard" inquiry as in application for credit, and should read "insurance." Did your son call for his quote or do it online? If he did it all online, then I would send an email from the website (log in as him) and complain and ask that they be removed. That email would get routed to the right department.

If he called in I have another suggestion, and I will email you that one.
