Hi Team,

I am thinking about a car loan for a used car, but I don't want to waste a hard pull on something I might not get approved for. So I was thinking is there a way to get pre approved with auto loans like you can with some credit cards?

Thanks

Welcome to CreditBoards! We hope that you find what you're looking for here.

Some helpful tips:

  • Your post may not get a reply right away. Don't be discouraged, this is a very busy board. If it falls off of the first page, feel free
to reply to your post yourself, with the word *bump* in the text. This will *bump* your post back up to the top of the board.
  • If you haven't yet, take a peek at out Newbies Section.
Everything that you need to know is in that forum, for the most part! It's a lot of reading, we know, but this credit stuff can have a steep learning curve. In no time, you'll be posting like the pros!
  • If you find that someone is discourteous to you, use the REPORT button at the bottom of every post - that will ensure that a moderator or admin looks at the post and decides if it is against the TOS.
  • Off -topic posts should go in the General Forum.

Again, welcome to the CreditBoards family!

I don't understand your post. If you apply for a credit card and are not approved, then by your terminology, you have wasted an inquiry.

Where is the lack of similarity for an auto loan? You apply, you receive a decision.

Or am I missing the intent of your question?

Maybe I worded it wrong.

I just got approved for a Creditone CC. The first thing I did was fill out their pre qualified online form (Link), and that told me i qualified for one of their cards. Then I filled out the actual credit card application online (hard pull), and got the credit card.

I was looking to see if there is something on the same lines as that for a auto loan.

Unfortunately I don't know of a way. I only do indirect loans. What you want is a direct loan. Perhaps someone else know better than myself.

Here is a bump for ya.

Nobody that I'm aware of will pre-approve you without a credit check, except (possibly) a bank/CU you already bank with that routinely softs your reports. You can, however, get pre-approved. When I bought my last car, I called Navy on the way to go look at the car and was pre-approved before I got there. They gave me the stipulations the car had to fit into, but I didn't have to tell them specifically what car.
