It seems like they are not backdating pure AU cards anymore (where someone adds you and you backdate to their year) but I had success adding someone to my new account who was no longer an amex user (but was way back when) and working it that way (parent in my case).

I'm not sure I understand this. Are you saying they won't backdate if you are the au, but the account holder can backdate their au's? Or au's can backdate to their own original starting dates, i.e. your parents backdated to their own starting date, not yours.

Whoa... so I could potentially add someone with an old Amex to my account and try to backdate my new account to THEIR member since date? Seriously???? DH's dad has an Amex but high %util and some missed payments, so we decided not to ask for DH to AU on his since it would drop his credit score.

If we can add him to DH's card and then backdate to his start date... that would be amazing! Am I understanding this correctly?

John23213, what on earth did you say to them to make that work? It sounds... impossible!

@rebuilding2010, yes that is correct.

You are understanding the process correctly, however, the person I added as AU did not have a current Amex card so YMMV. I don't see any reason it wouldn't work for a current holder, unless you are trying to add them to a card type (blue, zync, etc) that they already have one open version of themselves (even then it might still work).

I wasn't the first person to do this, back on page 24 Jesseegnew was in the same situation with a parent with an old closed account who couldn't get their own card now because of current credit issues and he had the exact same results. All I said was "Hi, my mother/father (my AU in this case) was an account holder back in 1980 and I just got their new card but the member since date says 12, could you update it to 80 please?" The next time it was along the lines of "Hi, can you update the member since date of my ____ (zync, blue, gold, etc) card to match the date on my other ____ card?" Just repeat something along those lines with every call until someone can finally do it.

Almost every rep I spoke with told me that they will no longer change your member since date unless they can confirm you were the primary account holder of a card with the old date and not an AU. Doing it this way, you are the primary account holder... ;)

I just had some success which will bump my <1yr AAOA to about 5.5 years in the coming weeks. I was at 770 prior so I may finally join the 800 club next month!

Took 12 calls, but in the end my advice would be keep calling card replacement directly. If the person who answers the phone has to put you on hold and they sound like they don't know what you are talking about, just thank them, say you have to go, hang up and call back to get someone new.

I had several calls that lasted >30 minutes and they ended in failure. The two times I had success it was a quick 2-3 minute call with someone who knew what they were doing AND had the authority to make it happen. Asking for supervisors or managers didn't help.

Whats the number for the card replacement department directly? Did you have any luck with backdating AU to OC date recently?

I just opened a new amex bcp today and would like to backdate it to my AU year... is there a certain amount of time I should wait before attempting?

In my case, it just did it without doing anything. First thing first. Create online account and see what it says about when you were a member. If you have existing member online id, you should be fine. If you don't, see what it says. Don't worry about what the card says. If it doesn't have right year, then call and complain and ask for new card and request the year you were first an AU. They should honor the request. You should have some proof such as the original card number and old bills etc.

Card Replacement at 800-297-8500.

There is no time frame you have to wait, but getting immediate replacement cards might bump up your chance of FR slightly.

Any luck getting AU cards backdated to OC through Card Replacement?

I didn't have any luck with that recently, other people have reported the same. You might still get lucky with an experienced rep who doesn't know or care about the newer policies. You won't know until you try... numerous times.

I will add that Amex even backdates internationally.

Opened my Blue Cash card in the USA in 2008. Moved to Europe in 2011 and used their global transfer service to setup credit abroad.

Stamped on my European card is "Member since 2008" -- also on my statements.

Great company.

Bummer, had no luck backdating my wife's card, and the one family member who could add me to backdate to 2001 just declined to add me as AU. :(

Said my score is already high enough. Ughhhhhh. This coming from a person who at one time begged to become AU and helped screw up another's credit.

for myself.. just got the AMEX Zync card last month.

Forgot that in 2008, my employer added me to the company card list. So I ended up being backdated to Feb 2008!!

New card, 4 years added :)

Can't complain there!!

Can I be added to my girlfriends AMEX personal platinum card as an authorized user if I owe Amex $30k on an Amex platinum business? This happened 5 years ago and Amex stopped trying to collect over 3 years ago and nothing has shown on my credit (and my states SOL law has past). Thoughts?

Have GF call to add you.

If you are not blacklisted, CSR will say, "You'll get the card in a week, unless you want overnight delivery."

If you ARE blacklisted, CSR will say, "You'll receive a letter in a week."

Just got approved for the BCP! :yahoo:

I'm currently an AU on my dad's Delta Skymiles, but I don't have the card. Dad still has a hard time believing I can be trusted with a credit card. :blush2:

How do I go about getting backdated to the Member Since 1987 that is on his card?

100 Call

100.1 Post here and say you're on the phone with a rep waiting to hear what they say

200.0 IF Succeed EXIT

200.1 If Failure, post here and talk smack about the rep

200.2 Follow up that post with "has anyone been able to backdate lately?"

200.3 Edit the last post to add "What number did you call?"

300 GOTO 100

Jk, it's easier to joke about it once you succeed. Don't worry, the harder you work for it the sweeter it will be when you get it. It took me numerous calls, FRs, global limits, etc, but it finally worked.

Thanks

I was just worried that since I'd never rec'd the card from my dad, that it might hinder my backdating attempt.

Well, I'm not a happy camper. I had a gold Amex back in 77 and they won't backdate. Just because they have no records and when they looked up my old card# it has been recycled and someone else has now has it. What kind of pitiful excuse is that?

My question is this.

Back in 2006 I had an Amex Platinum that I defaulted on for $13k. Since then I've started a business that is doing well I would like to get another Amex one day or at least have the back dating of the old acct. My younger sister has great credit but she also has an Amex delta sky miles platinum card that she got about a year ago. I want to know if I was to get added as an AU on her account if I would be able to back date my acct from 2006? I want to do this to improve my AAOA since my BK in 2008.

If you've burned AmEx before, they're probably going to deny AU status.

But, there are exceptions.

Yes, Yes, Yes!!! I applied for the AMEX Delta Skymiles Gold card approved for $4000, then applied for the Starwood AMEX approved for $2000. I just noticed that they backdated my cards to 1994 when I had a government charge card:)!!!! I'm hoping that will help with my credit history length, which was hurting my scores. Thanks AMEX!!! Already got my 30,000 miles bonus on delta card!!! :clapping:
