LL Bean is apparently doing online checkout pre-quals for their Barclay Visa card.

I just created an account to complete my purchase and got a "Congratulations! You're Pre-Qualified!" page during checkout. It had the prescreen opt-out notice and apparently would be available for instant use.

Might be a way for some to feel out Barclay before applying -- I got the popup before entering any payment information so it's not necessary to actually intend to complete an order.

I chose "No thanks, continue with checkout", so I can't comment on anything beyond that.

Feel out indeed... I didn't get the pre-qualified message, just an invited to apply page. No pre-screen notice and said "subject to credit approval" so I didn't hit the button.

My Fako scores are 650 with old chargeoffs should I keep applying for secured cards or try a unsecured card now?

I got a secured Cap 1 card in August then got an unsecured card from them last month. You might even try for Amex Zync.

Does it hurt my score when applying on the pre selector site? So Its possible to have 2 cap one cards?

The pre-selector site does not affect your score. When you fill out the actual app it will show up as a hard.

Thanks again CB's gang for all the wonderful help! Based on soft pulled information I got new credit from Capital one and Victoria secret and both are excellent soft pulls.

Posted

I applied to both capital one and Victoria secret both soft pulls first and got approved. I found that calling Capital one and speaking with a customer service representative was the best way to apply. I applied last Oct11 and was told they required additional information and that did not happen over the phone the customer service person even performed a soft pull based on a few questions. Yea!!!

Thanks for the links, I was just approved for a HSBC/Orchard Platinum M/C. Another step forward in rebuilding my credit!

Is there a link for the soft pull for the Victoria Secret Angel card that I missed somehow?

Sorry for the delay, they ask what I would use the card for and rather or not I would pay in full monthly! They wanted to help determine which card would be ideal for what I wanted.

at-check-out prescreened offers (e.g., target).

Do please tell more about this at Target? I'm always asked if I want to apply. And I DO! But, I'm afraid I'll be denied. How does a Target pre-screened offer work?

I am not that familiar with it, but target used to put prescreened offers on receipts. (I would not suggest responding to a clerk's offer since it is probably just a way to market the products).

might be old now, but 5 or so years ago, i read about the Target check out approval on this site. I did what it said, and sure enough, i got an offer on my receipt. there was some kind of formula to it. i had to use the same debit card there for so many weeks in a row, and sure enough, just like it said, i got the offer. according to the post, targe somehow tracks you by the usage of your debit card.

When you do a return at Target, you can just tell them your card number instead of having a receipt, so they definitely have the data set up.

I have The Orchard Bank card. Does it help my credit to call and try to have the limit increased? I have never been late on it and in the past they have just increased it without asking. It has been awhile, so it it possible that they would?

I wish more cards had these just to see how you're credit is improving. I've noticed especially with CrapOne, I've gone from Secured, Unsecured, now they're offering their Cash card.
