waralpha, I agree with the response you got from our customer service representative via phone. Here is the phone number that will get you directly to the Citi Cards application center: 1-800-248-4226. Give it a try tomorrow (Tuesday). Also, if you use Twitter, you can reach our customer service handle @AskCiti to ask questions and get help.

We also invite you to connect with us on Facebook (@Citibank) and follow @Citibank on Twitter for news/information/special offers.

Well. I definitely did not expect this. Thanks for the response, and another welcome from me. I couldn't wait and called the application center just now, and they confirmed my approval, limit and rate. I believe I have just gotten a whole new level of respect for Citi today. :good:

Just don't go on any app sprees. :D

I've been waiting a while for this app. So this was a singular one. I'm wondering actually if they even did a hard for this, it hasn't shown up on any of the CRAs yet. I doubt they used last month's hard report for the CLI on the other card. Maybe just lag on the CRA alerts. It is no matter however, I will not complain about best bottom APR offered on the card, and my 2nd highest limit.

Mike,

So what is the official policy on CLI's?

I'd love to raise my lines so I could use my cards more, but I don't want my credit report riddled with hard credit pulls from Citi all just for CLIs.

Thanks!

Well nevermind! I called in and a super nice lady informed me I was already eligible for a $1,400 increase without a credit pull.

I am LOVING Citi today!

jthedges, that's great news, congratulations! I was going to let you know that accounts are reviewed periodically for CLI eligibility, and that you can always call the number on the back of your card to proactively request one....which may require a credit check.

wow, all I can share is that in order to make a credit decision, Citi could pull a report from either of the major credit bureaus

Beat you to it! :yahoo:

They will only pull your credit if you DONT opt-out for overdraft protection.

I received a similar promotion for AAdvantage miles if I opened up a checking account and I too was unsure if they would pull my credit.

I walked in to an actual branch and spoke with one of their senior bankers. This is what she explained to me:

If you signup online, there is no option to opt-out of this and your credit will be pulled automatically.

If you go to an actual branch with the promotional letter that you received, the banker has the ability to uncheck the overdraft option which will override the credit check when submitting the paperwork for the checking account.

Chexsystems will be checked though.

A little while back, I was looking for a BT card with a decent limit so I could xfer high % CC balances to it. Was turned down by CITI due to FICO. Now while I don't blame CITI per se, their use of just a FICO does not really reflect true credit-worthiness. Since I lost job several years ago, FICO was lowered (naturally). The only 2 baddies left are over 5 years old and do not reflect the perfect history I had before or since. I've fought for a long time to get those removed (AFNI - TMobile, due to TMobile's bad bookeeping) and (CSI - Green Mountain Energy, because they didn't shut off my electric when I moved to another town). I've taken care of all that were truly mine but I refuse to pay for something that is the fault of someone else. CSI falls off at the end of the year so that's no big deal but AFNI will be on there for about 18 more months.

Actually, I blame FICO and could write a novel on why FICO is the ultimate devil.

Anyway, that's why I changed from banks to CUs. More consumer friendly, decent CLs, you can talk to real people who will listen to extenuating circumstances, etc. Like banks used to be. Since the 80's banks have become uppity and really aren't worth dealing with anymore. My only regret about not using banks anymore is I would really like an AAdvantage card and Continental card but even that want will go away soon. I won't have to worry about flying for personal reasons as I'm buying a plane. I'm tired of the time frame of getting on a commercial plane and being felt up at the airport, but that's for a different forum.

I have a nice PenFed card, Transunion (local CU) just raised me $3K, total credit line now is $35K and going higher. But I can only get 3 figure toy cards from banks (although I have a decent CL on my Hooter's and WF cards).

So I really don't care if major banks hate me, CUs love me and want to have my babies.

Mike,

I'm sure you're overwhelmed with questions, but I really appreciate you being here. I'm sure everyone else feels the same.

Allow me to add my question to the pile;

Is there a standard policy when it comes to BK age required for (a chance at) approval? Many issuers have a set 'your BK must be X years old before we'll consider you'. If so, how is that affected by whether Citi was included in the BK? Finally, is this a standard policy across all Citi serviced accounts (including retail brands) or does it differ?

Thanks again!

PS - Maybe we should start a Mike thread.. :)

Hey! I love the Citi card's virtual CC. I feel safer doing online biz using it.

*bump*

I'm curious about this as well.

Experian is a good credit bureau and all, but it also seems the CRA most likely to have a freeze on it for many reasons. It is always refreshing to find a creditor who will pull Equifax or Transunion instead because they know once the account relationship is established, they can soft EX even if it's frozen.

I would think that if there's something terrible there, they can always close the account.

This is just how I see it with my limited understanding of how things work, so forgive me if I'm in some way misunderstanding the process.
