House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel, D-Illinois, said, “We need an economic program that rebuilds America and offers real help to the middle class. The Democratic Congress will now begin work on a second stimulus package to help American families and get our economy back on track.â€

A Democratic leadership aide says House leaders have been discussing the need for another stimulus, but have not reached any decisions on what they want included in it. Some measures likely to be considered include funding for infrastructure projects, unemployment assistance, and food stamps.

A House GOP leadership aide said it’s too early to talk about another stimulus bill. “It's still a couple of weeks until the checks from the last stimulus bill hit people's mailboxes. If they [the Democrats] have ideas on things to help the economy we're happy to talk to them, but we see no need for additional legislation at this point.â€

I am wondering if anyone did get the second letter from the IRS saying how much their payment would be?

I only got the first one.

I did not get a second letter but my rebate is already in the bank. I assume the letter will show up later.

Nothing in our account yet. But our original date was May 16th. So maybe on Wed or Fri. for our payment. We only recieved one letter stating we'd get a payment, never got the other stating how much.

Daughter is in the low 00's and she had nothing today. Oh well, maybe tomorrow. She could really use it.

I was supposed to be in the 2nd batch originally going out on May 9th. Hoping I'll get it soon.

They are depositing Monday, Tuesday, Weds and Friday of this week, so we all still have some time. Maybe the first deposits were just randoms in 00-19. I read it was 800,000 people each day, and Friday was 5 million.

So seems odds are majority of us have to wait till friday then.

I just read the same article and am wondering if that accounts for everybody getting dd or just the first batch. I am in the second batch and was REALLY hoping to have it this week. An earlier article I read said all dd will be done this week...

I wonder how the initial direct deposits were determined last week cause u should have had urs on friday.

Yeah, has me a little worried. Have used TurboTax with direct deposit for the last 5 years, same bank account. Filed as head of household, one dependent child. :dntknw:

I used Turbo Tax too and I have been told conflicting information about this. I've been told that it will be a paper check (it said that on TT websote) because they went through SBBT to process the deposits, but their customer service said it would be direct deposit. SBBT said they really have no idea how it will be paid. Its a major PITA for me because I'm in the process of moving, expected DD, they dont fwd the checks and it takes 4-6 weeks to process address changes. DH and I are 12 and 06 and so far nothing. We shall see

I thought about this. My bf had his go through the SBBT, but mine, I paid that extra $20 or whatever it was up front (instead of having it taken out of my refund) and mine was direct deposited by IRS directly, not Santa Barbara. I will post if he gets his, although his last digits are 76 (his goes into my account ha woo!)

Will I have to pay it back?

No. And here's why.

Your stimulus payment is a one-time tax cut - an advance on a credit you'll receive on your 2008 return. You will not owe tax on your payment when you file your 2008 tax return, and it will not increase the amount you owe or reduce your 2008 refund.

The stimulus payment is based on your 2007 income initially. If it turns out that your 2008 income and number of children would have qualified you for a larger rebate than the one you received, you'll be sent the difference. If it turns out your 2008 income was lower than in 2007 and you should have gotten a lower rebate, you get to keep the difference.

"If you were supposed to receive a larger payment than you did, you will get the extra money," said Treasury spokesman Andrew DeSouza. "If you received more than what you should have gotten, you will not be penalized."
