I made my last payment on Feb. 24 and it was a partial payment, however, the lady said the payment would keep my account current and it would not report to the CRAs. She told me to fax the deferment and I should be fine...well I did that and I have a copy of the fax.

Well today, I check my credit and I've been hit with a 90-day late!

How should I approach this? Should I call a Great Lakes rep tomorrow and explain this?

A partial pay does not keep your account current.

Did you receive any confirmation of the deferment?? Or a monthly billing?? You might have left it too long without double checking that the deferment was accepted.

I just know she told me that if I made any kind of payment Great Lakes would not report my account to the CRAs. I was also told that I qualified for a deferment and all I needed to do was fax the document that she sent me, which I did, and I have a copy of it.

In my case, what's the best way to get this 90-days off? Also, they had the wrong number on file, which is why they weren't able to get in contact with me.

They will regularly report your balance and repayment status (current or delinquent) to at least 1 CRA, like it says in the agreement you signed when you took out your loan. They won't report you delinquent if you pay what you agreed to pay, when you agreed to pay it. "Any kind of payment" isn't what you agreed to pay.

I was also told that I qualified for a deferment and all I needed to do was fax the document that she sent me, which I did, and I have a copy of it.

Well, they have to get it, it has to be complete and valid, and supporting docs may be required.

It's highly unlikely you will get it removed. It's your responsibility to make sure they have updated contact info.
